FALL AUTHOR VISITS
Historical suspense writer William Martin (author of Back Bay and many others) will be at the library on Tuesday, October 23, at 7 p.m. to talk about his latest book, The Lincoln Letter. Investigative reporter for 7News in Boston and award-winning mystery author Hank Phillippi Ryan will be here on the evening of Tuesday, November 27, to talk about her new book, The Other Woman. Wayland’s own Juliette Fay will be at the library to talk about her latest book, The Shortest Way Home, on Sunday afternoon, December 2.

HOWLARIOUS HALLOWEEN
Storyteller Mary Jo Maichack’s performance of classic ghost stories, songs and jokes will make kids jump, giggle, and groan! Her stories are the snort-your-candy-in-the-dark funniest sort of Halloween Fun. Saturday, October 27, at 2:30 p.m. in the Raytheon Room. For ages 4 and up.

DROP-IN HALLOWEEN CRAFT
Make a spooky Halloween craft with children’s librarian Elise Katz on Wednesday, October 24 from 2-4 p.m. For children ages 4 and up in the Raytheon Room.

FUN FOR BABIES AND TODDLERS
Sandy Leifeld of the Newton Free Library will be at our library to lead a special Mother Goose program on Wednesday, October 24, at 10:30 a.m. Ms. Leifeld spearheaded “Mother Goose” programming across Massachusetts. This participatory storytime is filled with songs, rhymes, and movement and is a must-do for babies and toddlers! For babies to 2.5 years with a caregiver.

FRIENDS BOOK AND BAKE SALE
The Friends’ semi-annual book and bake sale will be on Saturday, October 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, October 28, from noon to 4 p.m. in the Town Building Large Hearing Room. Book donations will be accepted during set-up on Wednesday, October 24, and Thursday, October 25, in the Large Hearing Room. Donations of baked goods will be accepted from Friday until the end of the sale on Sunday. There is a preview for Friends of the Wayland Library on Friday, October 26, from 6-8:30 p.m. This fundraiser helps the Friends support the library’s museum pass program as well as many other library programs.

ESTATE PLANNING FOR SPECIAL NEEDS
On Monday, October 29, from 7-9 p.m., Ken Shulman, a partner at Day Pitney LLP, and David Harmon, a Financial Advisor at AXA Advisors, will discuss issues that families of special needs individuals and those individuals themselves must address when they plan their estates including guardianship, public benefits programs, special needs trusts and related planning issues.

PERSONAL CLOUD COMPUTING
Wayland librarian Matt Amory will give a program on Wednesday, October 31, from 7-9 p.m. talking about personal computing “in the cloud.” Matt will also introduce the library’s new Chromebooks, which can be checked out by the public for use in the library building.

PRESERVING PRICELESS MEMORIES
On Tuesday, November 6, from 7:30-9 p.m., our second Great Presenter, David G. O’Neil of Story Trust, will give a program entitled “Preserving Priceless Memories—How to Create a Lasting Legacy for Your Family.” Come and learn how to create a precious oral history for your family. David is a personal historian and founder of Story Trust, a Newton-based publisher of memoirs and personal histories for families, family-owned businesses, and organizations. Since 2007, he has published over a dozen memoirs and produced scores of oral histories and video biographies. David holds a B.A. in economics from American University and an M.A. in theology from Harvard.

EMPLOYMENT WORKSHOPS WITH GARY GEKOW
Employment workshops with Senior Employment Specialist Gary Gekow have started, but it’s not too late to join in. The next workshop will be on Tuesday, October 30, at 7 p.m. and will concentrate on “Cover & Thank You Letters.” Gary will discuss resume writing in general, via a round table group format. Participants are encouraged to bring their existing resume for confidential one-on-one analysis as time permits. Dates are topics of additional workshops are: November 13 (Interviewing) and November 20 (Salary and Benefits Negotiation).

WAYLAND PUBLIC LIBRARY POETRY WORKSHOP
The library sponsors a poetry writing group that meets twice a month on two Wednesdays a month, from 2-4 pm. At each session members listen to each other’s poems and offer suggestions for improvement. Anyone interested in writing poetry is welcome to visit. CHILDREN’S POETRY WORKSHOPS
Our next monthly poetry workshops for children ages eight and up will be on Wednesday, November 28, from 7-8 p.m. Children will listen to, read, and write poetry. Led by Children’s Librarian Pam McCuen.

OCTOBER ART EXHIBITS
The foyer features the work of children’s book artist Nancy Poydar. Nancy has written and illustrated sixteen children’s picture books as well as illustrated many others. This month the Raytheon Room contains artwork Elizabeth Brennan.

NEEDLEWORK/HANDWORK GROUP
Our Needlework/Handwork group meets on the first Wednesday of each month from 10-11:30 a.m. in the Raytheon Room. It’s a group for people to work on needlework and handwork projects together.
