Two new officers join Wayland Police Department

Chief Robert Irving is pleased to announce the appointments of Bryan M. Healy and Christopher J. Custodie as police officers with the Wayland Police Department. Officers Healy and Custodie were selected for these positions in June. Both officers graduated from the 20th Recruit Officer Course at the Boylston Regional Police Academy on December 7th.

Officer Healy is a member of the U.S. Air Force Reserves and serves as part of the security forces at Westover Air Base. He was on active duty for a period of 2 ½ years, from April of 2010 until July of 2012, and served in Afghanistan in 2010 and 2011. Officer Healy was named Airman of the Year for Security Forces in 2011. Officer Healy has attended Quincy College in the Criminal Justice Program and plans to pursue his degree now that he has completed his active service in the Air Force.

Officer Custodie graduated from Nauset Regional High School in 2002. He was a member of the United State Marines Reserves from 2003 until 2009. He was on active duty from February of 2004 until September of 2004, serving as an armorer in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom II. Officer Custodie graduated from Fitchburg State College in 2011 with a Bachelors Degree in History. He plans to pursue a master’s degree in criminal justice.

A swearing-in ceremony took place at the Board of Selectmen’s meeting on Monday evening, when both officers took the Oath of Office from Wayland Town Clerk, Lois Toombs.

The hiring of Officers Healy and Custodie brings the overall strength of the department to its current authorized level of twenty-two.
