Wayland Youth Soccer (WAYS) kicks off 2013 season with support from WHS and NE Revolution

RevsMascot1Wayland Youth Soccer (WAYS) program is off to an exciting start to the Fall 2013 season. With players from Kindergarten through Middle School, the program officially started Saturday, September 7 with in-town, intramural practices and games for 1st-3rd graders. Older players, 4th grade and up, began their travel season in BAYS (Boston Area Youth Soccer).

To celebrate the start of the season, WAYS held a well-attended kick-off event late afternoon on September 7 at Claypit Hill School. Players, parents, and coaches from all age groups attended. Wayland High School varsity boys and girls team players also joined to help with games, contests, raffles and prizes. Also in attendance was The New England Revolution mascot, SLYDE, and New England Revolution midfielder, Donnie Smith (#33), who joined the fun, signed autographs and answered questions.

“We were thrilled with the start of the season,” commented Reed Newton, Vice President of WAYS and event organizer. “The kickoff party was a great way to gather everyone involved with WAYS, to celebrate our program; the town; and the start to our 2013 Fall season. Having our High School teams work with the younger players is a great way to connect the programs and build support.”

The connection between WAYS and the High School soccer program is an important one. WAYS players can attend High School varsity home games as ball kids. A new initiative, Leadership Kicks In, pairs High School players with WAYS teams for practices and games. The hope for this program is to build mentor relationships between Wayland’s soccer players of all ages.

Other special WAYS events and activities:

  • WAYS night at the New England Revolution – Saturday, September 21, Gillette Stadium
  • Skills clinics with PROformance Soccer Academy for ages K-2 (Mondays) and U11-U14 (Thursdays)
