Farm Fiber Day at the Winter Farmers’ Market, January 25

handspun 2On Saturday the Winter Farmers’ Market will have the first of two Farm Fiber Days (the next one is February 22) at the Market. In addition to over 40 food vendors, there will be 19 fiber vendors, most of whom are farmers, bringing yarn and other fiber products produced from their own animals (sheep, alpaca, angora rabbit). This is a great opportunity to show shoppers another side of farming and agriculture.

Where does the wool you wear originate? Ask a farmer how her breed of wool differs from another.  Meet author/farmer, Barbara Parry from Foxfire Fiber & Designs at Springdelle Farm in Shelburne. She will bring her yarn and autograph her new book, Adventures in Yarn Farming: Four Seasons of a New England Fiber Farm.  See spinning demonstrations, including Louise Walsh, spinning directly from her angora rabbit to her spinning wheel.  Jonathan Bosworth, internationally renowned drop spindle and spinning wheel maker, will demonstrate and talk about his reconstruction of a c100 BC Chinese spinning wheel from the Han Dynasty era. Watch socks being made on an Earlbacher Gearhart knitting machine.  Linda Scharf teaches LEARN TO SPIN: AN INTRODUCTION class from 1 to 4 PM. ($35 fee – limited to 15). Contact http://stoneleafmoon.com/teaching.htm to sign up.
