Great Presenters Series: Helen Riess, M.D.: Understanding the power of empathy through neuroscience and practice, March 3

The Wayland Free Public Library’s Great Presenters Series continues in March with Dr. Helen Riess, whose research on the neuroscience of emotions has won her numerous awards and an opportunity to deliver a TEDx talk called “The Power of Empathy.”

Dr. Riess says humans are hardwired for empathy. She has devoted her career to understanding the art and science that make up a patient-doctor relationship. Riess will describe the science underlying empathy, the evolutionary advantage for pro-social behaviors, and the benefits of empathy in healthcare and human relationships.

Dr. Riess is the Director of the Empathy and Relational Science Program at Massachusetts General Hospital and Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. She is Co-Founder, Chairman, and Chief Scientific Officer of Empathetics, LLC, a company that provides web-based empathy training and related relational skills solutions.

Tuesday, March 3, 2015. 7:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., in WFPL’s Raytheon Room.
