Review of Actuary’s Report on OPEB

A joint meeting of the Wayland Board of Selectmen and the OPEB Advisory Committee will review the latest cost forecast for OPEB (Other Post-Employment Benefits), which is principally health insurance for retired Wayland employees. Odyssey Advisors, the town’s actuarial firm, will assess the reasons for Wayland’s recent success in reducing OPEB costs over the past two years, and provide a forecast of OPEB through 2038.

Wayland’s OPEB Advisory Committee will provide detailed answers to the general public on its Warrant Article on OPEB funding for the 2015 Annual Town Meeting. The Committee will describe its work of the past year, how OPEB costs are being reduced and then shared fairly between general taxpayers and users of fee-based programs. The recent financial results by the Town’s OPEB Investment Account will be reviewed, along with a comparison of Wayland’s OPEB funding to that of other Massachusetts towns. General Q & A will follow.
