Wayland Town Crier 4/27/14: Discover ‘Legendary Locals of Wayland’. “Legendary Locals of Wayland,” a new history book by Evelyn Wolfson, will inform readers about a lot of things they didn’t know about people they thought they knew, while also telling them a lot of things about people they don’t know. The individuals profiled range from nationally known figures such as Archibald Cox, independent counsel during the Watergate crisis, to local chef and entrepreneur Tom Kaewsprasert of the Thai restaurant Spice & Pepper near the town center. She particularly enjoyed researching the story of brothers Peter and Werner Gossels, who escaped from Nazi Germany as young boys, went to France and then to America, and have served the town of Wayland for decades, as well as the achievements of Charlotte Russell, who won a triathlon in 2012 at the age of 79. Other familiar names in the book include longtime volunteer and town servant Jack Wilson; Taylor Schilling, star of the Netflix series “Orange Is the New Black”; the Bloomstein family, owners of Mel’s Commonwealth Café; World War II veteran Shirley Barnes; marathon superstar Alberto Salazar; and Pam Washek, founder of the Neighbor Brigade.
