Clement PhotoGeorge M. Clement, a long-time educator and finalist for a national teaching award, has been selected by Minuteman High School as its new Assistant Principal / Director of Admissions.  Mr. Clement had served in that role in an interim capacity since late January.

He assumes the position formerly held by John “Jack” Dillon III, who was recently appointed Principal at the school.

In his new role, Mr. Clement will be responsible for letting seventh- and eighth-grade students and their families know about the high-quality educational opportunities available at Minuteman.  He will meet annually with hundreds of potential applicants and be in overall charge of the school’s admissions process.  He will also be coordinating a variety of career development activities intended to give middle school students an opportunity to experience career and technical education and get a sampling of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) initiatives.

“I have great confidence in George’s abilities,” said Dr. Edward A. Bouquillon, Superintendent-Director at Minuteman.  “His enthusiasm and positive attitude make him a great fit for this position.”

Mr. Clement has been at Minuteman since 2009 as a Reading Specialist.

In 2014, he was named a finalist for Scholastic Company’s “All-Star Educator Award” for reading.

“Minuteman offers students a competitive advantage, whether they’re going directly to college or directly into the workforce,” said Mr. Clement.  “Our students discover what they like to do and what they do well.  They get passionate about their future.  This provides a focus that makes high school more meaningful and gives college a real purpose.”

Previously, he served as a Special Education teacher at Greater Lawrence Technical High School and Chelsea High School, as a Reading Teacher at Coral Springs High School in Florida, and as a Social Studies Teacher at Salem High School.

He also held positions at the Landmark School in Prides Crossing, MA; Amherst Middle School in Salem, NH; and Salem School District in Salem, NH.

Mr. Clement holds a B.A. in History/Education from Merrimack College in North Andover and a M.S. Ed. in Special Needs from Simmons College in Boston.

Minuteman offers a wide selection of academic courses, foreign languages (Spanish, French and Latin), Art, Music, Advanced Placement courses, and Girls in STEM.  It also offers a wide range of junior varsity and varsity sports and does not charge any fees to participate.

After graduation, more than 60% of the school’s graduates pursue college or advanced training.  About one-third go directly into a career.

Minuteman has been spotlighted in several major media outlets, including The Boston Globe, Boston Herald, and National Public Radio.  It was also featured in a book, Job U: How to Find Wealth and Success by Developing the Skills Companies Actually Need.

The Minuteman district includes 16 member communities: Acton, Arlington, Belmont, Bolton, Boxborough, Carlisle, Concord, Dover, Lancaster, Lexington, Lincoln, Needham, Stow, Sudbury, Wayland, and Weston.
