Opera del West perfoms Marriage of Figaro at TCAN August 14 and 16

MarriageofFigaro.jpgIt’s time for another Opera del West summer production, and this one will be something special.

Artistic Director, Eve Budnick of Wayland, had been hoping to put on The Marriage of Figaro for a number of years, and as her company, Opera del West headed into its 10th anniversary year, this seemed like just the time. She brought on the Stage Director who directed The Seagull last year, and they decided to place the show in the 1950s. The double standard for men and women’s fidelity can be seen as easily in Mad Men as in Figaro.

This will be a large production with cast members from previous shows, as well as talented newcomers. As usual, the intimacy of The Center for Arts will provide a way to see, hear, understand and empathize with Mozart’s well conceived characters.

A Mozart classic based on the comedy of class warfare by Beaumarchais. Will Figaro be able to marry Susanna before his master, the Count, gets his lascivious hands on her? It will take deception, intrigue, and masquerade to reach a happy ending. Sung in Italian with English supertitles. Stage Direction by Brenda Huggins and Music Direction by Eve Budnick.

Performances are: August 14 at 8pm and August 16 at 2pm

Admission is $25, $20 for TCAN members
