Important Warrant Article to be Considered at Fall Town Meeting

Wayland voters will have the opportunity to fund a feasibility study as part of a State-funded library construction grant at fall Town Meeting. Residents will vote on an article, submitted by the Board of Library Trustees, to fund a study to evaluate available options for easing crowding at the Wayland Free Public Library and providing better library services to the residents of Wayland. The study is a required step in the application process and must be completed by fall 2016 for the Town to apply for a library construction grant in January, 2017.

The study will examine the feasibility of expanding and renovating the current library building as well as building a new library on a different site. It will then produce detailed site analyses, schematic designs, and estimates of construction and project costs for one site.

The Massachusetts Public Library Construction Program will make over $150 million available to communities in the Commonwealth that are seeking to renovate and expand their libraries or build new ones. Construction grants, which can cover up to 45% of eligible construction costs of an approved library project for a town like Wayland, will be announced in the summer of 2017.

The article will be discussed and voted at Town Meeting on Monday, November 9, starting at 7:30 p.m. Wayland residents are encouraged to attend on November 9th.
