Parmenter awarded $4000 grant

HeartPlayFoundation for MetroWest grant to support HEARTplaysm

The Parmenter Foundation of Wayland recently received a $4,000 grant from the Foundation for MetroWest to help fund the innovative bereavement program, HEARTplay Grief Group for Young Adults, for those who have experienced the death of someone close to them.   The award was based upon the recommendation of students in the Youth in Philanthropy Program at Concord Academy, after carefully evaluating many proposals.  HEARTplay Grief Group for Young Adults is a peer support group for late high school and college-age students. The group shares concerns about leaving home after a loss, meeting new people, finding support and outlets for their grief, time management, and the importance of self-care. This free bereavement group will meet for seven sessions throughout the summer, for more information, go to www.parmenterfoundation.org or call 508-309-5107.

In its 21st year, HEARTplay, a CareGroup Parmenter Home Care & Hospice, Inc. program, utilizes expressive arts to help children and teens cope with the death of a loved one – usually a parent or sibling.  HEARTplay is provided free to all children and teens, and is funded in part by The Parmenter Foundation.

“We are both thankful and proud to have been awarded a Foundation for MetroWest Youth in Philanthropy grant,” said The Parmenter Foundation Executive Director Michael Halloran.  “It affords us a great opportunity to grow the HEARTplay program to reach young adults.”

“This generous award will enable us to further develop community partnerships with agencies in the MetroWest area that serve children and teens,” states Denise McQuaide, President of CareGroup Parmenter Home Care & Hospice, “as well as to support families in our hospice program.”  Adds Jenifer Wiles, bereavement coordinator, “We are thrilled to be able to extend the transformative and life changing benefits of the program to college-age teens and young adults.”
