Sudbury Valley Trustees (SVT) will be hosting two opportunities on Saturday, July 16 for the public to visit and learn about the pollinator restoration improvements at Wolbach Farm in Sudbury. For the past year, SVT has strategically planned garden beds to increase the abundance of plants for pollinators, such as Monarch butterflies and native bees. The focus of this work has been along the Sudbury River, a major migratory corridor where pollinators need places to feed and rest. Pollinator Parties will be offered both in morning (10:30am-12pm) and afternoon (12:30pm-2pm) sessions, free and open to the public. Participants will learn about the role of all kinds of pollinating insects and how we depend on them for many foods and flowering plants. Jesse Koyen, Regional Stewardship Coordinator and MassLIFT AmeriCorps member, will explain the sharp decline in pollinators and what can be done to help. The program will also include a trail walk to discover plants beloved by butterflies and bees, a visit to the new pollinator garden beds, construction of a bee hotel, and refreshments that depend on the hard work of pollinators.
