[Updated 8/18] Traffic Advisory for construction projects around Wayland

road construction aheadThe Wayland Police issued this traffic advisory via phone call and on Facebook:

On August 15,2016 the Town of Wayland will have several road construction projects in progress at the same time. These projects are expected to cause extreme traffic delays thought the town.

  • Old Connecticut Path from Route 126 to Route 20 will be resurfaced between the hours of 7AM and 4PM causing the road to be closed at times. This work is expected to be completed by Friday August 19
  • The School Street, East Plain and Route 30 project will continue with expected delays as the project expands.
  • Route 27 and Route 30 project will begin with heavy delays expected from 8AM to 3 PM. This work is expected to be complete October 2017.

All are advised to seek alternative routes.

Update from the DPW 8/18/16:

Old Connecticut Path East:
Road reclamation has been completed and the application of the binder coat of pavement is underway and is scheduled to be completed by Saturday August 21, weather permitting. Construction will continue through the week of August 22, the manholes and catch basins will be raised in preparation of the application of the top-coat of pavement. Paving will take place during daytime hours – resident access will be maintained but the road will be closed to through traffic. Please anticipate delays, follow the direction of police officers on-site, and drive with caution.

ROUTE 30, EAST PLAIN, SCHOOL STREET INTERSECTION
The construction to permanently reconfigure the intersection of Route 30, East Plain Street, and School Street is well under way, and is scheduled to be completed within the next few weeks. At times, motorists may experience minor delays – please drive with caution and follow the direction of police officers on-site.

FIVE PATHS (OLD CONNECTICUT PATH & COCHITUATE ROAD) INTERSECTION
Upgrades to the Five Paths intersection are scheduled to begin within the next few weeks. In-road construction will be minimal – the project will primarily consist of an upgrade to the traffic signals and pedestrian crossings. During construction, motorists may experience minor delays at times.

ROUTE 27 & 30 INTERSECTION
Upgrades to the intersection of Route 27 and Route 30 are currently beginning. This project is being completed by Newport Construction under the direction of MassDOT, and is scheduled to occur in phases over the next 18 months. Every effort will be made by the State to minimize traffic disruption, including performing work at night when needed. During this project, please anticipate delays and follow all construction signage as well as the direction of on-site police officers. Please direct any questions regarding this project to MassDOT at 877-623-6846.

COCHITUATE GAS MAIN INSTALLATION
National Grid will be installing new gas lines on several streets in Cochituate. This project is being completed by Neuco Construction under the direction of National Grid, and is scheduled to occur over the next 9 weeks. The contractor is scheduled to begin work on Shawmut Avenue, followed by Harrison Street, then Bradford Street; with construction on each road scheduled to last 2-3 weeks. Resident access will be maintained throughout the project, but please drive with caution and follow the direction of on-site police officers. COCHITUATE WATER MAIN REPLACEMENT
Utilizing C.C. Construction as contractor, the Town will be replacing water main on Main Street between Damon Street and East/West Plain Street as well as on Bradford Street, Shawmut Avenue, and Harrison Street. Work is scheduled to commence within the next week. Every effort will be made to minimize traffic disruptions, including the completion of work on the Main Street portion between 7:00pm and 5:00am.

Old Connecticut Path East:

The resurfacing of Old Connecticut Path East will begin on Wednesday, August 10. On August 10 and 11, crews will be on site to adjust manholes – please anticipate delays and follow the direction of the police officers on-site.

Full road reclamation is scheduled to begin on Monday, August 15 and last approximately three days, weather permitting. During the reclamation process, the road may be closed to through traffic at times – please anticipate delays and seek alternate routes. Resident access will be maintained for the duration of the project.

Please with safety in mind: Keep speeds to a minimum, follow all signage and generally proceed with caution.

Route 30/East Plain/School Street:

Improvements to the intersection of Route 30, East Plain, and School St is scheduled to begin shortly.  Our contractor has begun staging, with the entire duration of the project scheduled to be 4 to 5 weeks.  On occasion, you may encounter equipment and workers in the road. Surfaces may be rough, uneven, unfinished, and may have raised structures. Please with safety in mind: Keep speeds to a minimum, follow all signage and generally proceed with caution.  Any questions that you may have can be directed to the the DPW’s contracted engineer from TEC on-site, or contact the DPW Senior Foreman Joe Doucette at 508-358-6853 between the hours of 6:30am and 2:30pm.

  1. This is great information! I appreciate being alerted ahead of time so I can adjust my daily commute. Awesome public service.

  2. Those improvements are great but when will Waltham Road be resurfaced? It is heavily utilized, has been patched many times over several years causing a very precarious drive and presents safety issues as drivers often cross lanes in order to avoid some of the pot holes and rough, patched surface.
