The Concord Area Humanists will meet on Wednesday, October 5, at 7pm, at the First Parish in Concord Center at 20 Lexington Road. The entrance to the meeting hall is at the right rear of the building. The speaker will be Professor Abby Hafer a teacher, writer, and humorist. She also teaches human anatomy and physiology at Curry College. Our meetings typically begin with some socializing including refreshments before the talk beginning at 7:15pm. At the conclusion of the presentation around 8pm there is time for discussion, questions and answers as well as more socializing prior to our open steering committee meeting to which everyone is welcome. The title of Abby’s talk is “Everything You Know About Sex is Wrong: Part 1 – The Gender Binary” and raises issues such as: Why does sex exist? What are males for? Is the gender binary real? And why does a microbe have the swingingest sex life of all? In conclusion she will show that morality should not be based on the say-so of supernatural beings and their supposed interpreters.
