School Committee presents three ways for parents and community to provide input in the Superintendent search process

Focus Groups. The groups will be run by NESDEC, the search firm assisting the School Committee with the Superintendent Search, and are designed to obtain participant input about the attributes, experience and knowledge that the new superintendent should possess.  The groups also provide an opportunity for participants to identify immediate tasks that the new superintendent should address.  All of this information will greatly assist the School Committee and the Screening Committee as they interview candidates.  Dates and times for focus groups are:
  • Friday, January 6 at 9am in the School Committee Meeting Room
  • Monday, January 9 at 7pm in the Large Hearing Room
Online Survey.   Go to  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/LXX7QL9  to provide input regarding the characteristics believed to be important in the next Superintendent of Schools.  The survey will be open until noon on Friday, January 13.

Superintendent Search Screening Committee.  The School Committee is looking for members of the community to serve on the Superintendent Search Screening Committee.  The Committee’s role will be the preliminary screening of applicants for the position of Superintendent of Schools.  Its responsibilities will include reviewing applications, conducting screening interviews and recommending candidates to the School Committee for further consideration.  NESDEC, the search firm working with the School Committee, will conduct an orientation with the Screening Committee concerning these responsibilities.

In addition to an interest in the Wayland schools, a member of this Screening Committee must commit to:

  • Maintaining confidentiality about the candidates throughout and after the process has been completed; and
  • Making themselves available for a total of 20-30 hours of time from approximately Feb. 7, 2017 – March 7, 2017, including:
    • up to 10 hours of time to review application materials
    • 15-20 additional hours of meeting time to participate in screening interviews as well as the decision-making process as to which candidates to recommend to the School Committee for further consideration.  Screening interviews most likely will take place during the evening hours, and possibly on a weekend, in mid- to late-February/early March.

Current parents will be selected for the Screening Committee by the Townwide PTO and other community members will be selected for the Screening Committee by the School Committee.  In selecting members of the Screening Committee, both the Townwide PTO and School Committee will strive to achieve a cross section of the Wayland Public Schools community, with representation from all school levels and constituencies.

Anyone interested in becoming a member of the Screening Committee is invited to send a completed application to Ellen Grieco, Chair of the School Committee, Wayland Public Schools, Town Building, 41 Cochituate Road, P.O. Box 408, Wayland, MA  01778 by 5:00 pm on Friday, Jan. 13th.  Please contact Diane Marobella at (508) 358-3763 for an application or go online here to download an application.
