Wayland Cultural Council seeks funding proposals

WAYLAND CULTURAL COUNCIL SEEKS FUNDING PROPOSALS

Proposals for community-oriented arts, humanities, and science programs due Monday, October 16th.

The Wayland Cultural Council has set a Monday, October 16th deadline for organizations, schools, and individuals to apply for grants that support arts and cultural activities in the community. Funding is available for projects and programs planned from July 1, 2017 through December 31, 2018.

According to Council chair, Kara Brewton, these grants can support a variety of artistic projects and activities, including exhibits, festivals, short-term artist residencies, or performances, workshops, and lectures. Based on a just-completed community-wide survey, the Council especially encourages applications focused on community-wide gatherings, nature, science, environmental projects, projects celebrating local history; and projects celebrating cultural diversity.

The Wayland Cultural Council is part of a network of 329 Local Cultural Councils serving all 351 cities and towns in the Commonwealth. The LCC Program is the largest grassroots cultural funding network in the nation, supporting thousands of community-based projects in the arts, sciences and humanities every year. The state legislature provides an annual appropriation to the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency, which then allocates funds to each community.

This year, the Wayland Cultural Council will distribute about $4500 in grants. Previously funded projects include: The Wayland Council on Aging, The Wayland Concert Series, a reading project at the Wayland Public Library, The Musicians of the Old Post Road, a multi-cultural presentation at the Islamic Center of Boston in Wayland, a new Wayland Poetry Garden, and several individual exhibitions, performances, or instructive sessions by educators, artists, and specialists.

Application forms and complete information about the Wayland Cultural Council and its grants are available online at www.mass-culture.org.
