Spring College A Cappella Concert will be at Wayland High, April 7

Three fantastic college a cappella groups are coming to the Wayland High School Theater to perform at the Spring College A Cappella Concert on Saturday, April 7, at 7:30 pm.  They will be joined by WHS’ own T-Tones, Muses and Madrigals for a night of great entertainment!

Every Fall and Spring, the College A Cappella concerts are a musical highlight of Wayland life. A cappella music features fresh arrangements of both classic and contemporary songs performed by unaccompanied singers, though vocalists sometimes emulate instruments. A cappella attracts the most talented singers on college campuses nationwide!

The fall and spring college a cappella concerts are major fundraisers for the Creative Arts Parents Association (CAPA), a nonprofit that supports the arts at Wayland High School. For more information, join the mailing list, or make a donation, visit www.whsarts.org.

Featured college groups on April 7 are an award-winning trio:  the Vassar Devils, featuring Wayland’s own Sophia Calder; University of New Hampshire Not Too Sharp; and Northeastern Pitch, Please!

Founded in 1987, the Vassar Devils are known for their tight harmonies, polished sound, complex arrangements, and sense of fun. Their diverse, constantly growing repertoire includes a variety of genres, from pop hits, to indie ballads, classic rock, and sexy jazz. Their professional studio album, Coming Alive, was released in May 2017. The Devils have performed at the Bardavon Opera House and publicity events for “Sing It On!” with POP TV. They also performed for President and First Lady Obama. The Devils were the winners of BOSS (Boston Sings) in 2016.
Not Too Sharp is an all-male a cappella group from the University of New Hampshire. Established in 2002, the group performs live on the UNH campus, at other colleges, for fundraisers, shows, businesses, and private parties in the New Hampshire community. Their semi-annual benefit show supports the American Cancer Society. From performing on the Today Show, to opening for Jay Leno and singing for President Obama’s final rally, Not Too Sharp has made a name for themselves across the nation and they’re not stopping anytime soon. The group released their newest album, Rewind, this past December.
Pitch, Please! was founded in fall 2012 by two Northeastern University students who were looking to create a competitive, professional-caliber, all-female group that challenged the standards of traditional collegiate a cappella. The group’s first full-length album, Aurum, was released in 2016 and was nominated for four Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards. Pitch, Please! competed in Boston Sings 2017 and received an award for weaving original spoken word about shattering the glass ceiling throughout their set.  In the 2019 ICCA Quarterfinals, they placed third and won an award for outstanding choreography. Pitch, Please! performs at Northeastern University, and across New England.

What better way to celebrate Spring and support the arts at WHS than to come see these exuberant groups sing and entertain! Priced at $18, tickets are available at Donelan’s, Russell’s Garden Center, and online at the WHS CAPA website, www.whsarts.org. You can also find pictures, videos, and additional information on the concert’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/collegeacappella/.  Seats are general admission and doors open at about 7:00 p.m. A limited number of tickets will also be sold at the door, as available.
