The Treasures Under Our Town: A Presentation on the Dorey House Excavation

Join us on Sat. October 20 at 2pm in the Wayland Town Building for a presentation and display on the Dorey House Dig, sponsored by the Wayland Historical Commission and the Wayland Historical Society.

Before the old Dorey House by Wayland’s Baldwins Pond was demolished last year, a crew of anthropology students and their supervisors from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst carried out an excavation to uncover historic artifacts. They were assisted by volunteers from the Wayland Archaeology Group.

The items they found shed light on details of life in Wayland in earlier times. Was the location really the site of a Revolutionary War-era tavern? UMass Amherst student Kathleen Barvick, who led the work as part of her thesis project, will discuss the findings from the excavation.

This Archaeology Month Event will be held on October 20th at 2:00 pm in the Large Hearing Room of the Wayland Town Building, 41 Cochituate Road in Wayland. Artifacts from the excavation will be on display. Refreshments will be served. Free Admission.
