ADULT PROGRAMS

  • Create a Personalized Calendar with Shutterfly. Makes a great holiday gift!  Bring your own laptop or use one of ours.  Come in on Tuesday, November 13 from 2-3:30 p.m. with 16 to 40 selected pictures on a flash drive or your iPhone. If you need help getting pictures ready, contact MJ at the library.  You can order your calendar from Shutterfly for about $21 plus shipping.  Registration recommended by calling the library or signing up online.
  • De-Stress for the Holidays: Introduction to Mindfulness. Join us for an experiential evening of guided meditation.  On Thursday, November 15 at 7 p.m., stress management expert and certified Reiki Master Marci Zieff will offer some simple tools that, when practiced regularly, can reduce stress, promote greater health, increase happiness, and help improve self-awareness.
  • 3D Design WorkshopSliding Box. Participants will design their own working sliding box.  Objects will be printed after the workshop for free.  Parents of very young children (6-7) are encouraged to stay and design with their children.  Space is limited so sign up online, in person, or over the phone.  The class is on Thursday, November 15 from 4:45-6 p.m.
  • Fall Book and Bake Sale. Book donations will be accepted during set-up in the Town Building Large Hearing Room on Wednesday and Thursday, November 14 and 15.  Baked goods will be accepted from Friday until the end of the sale on Sunday—and bakers are needed!  Please call Jan Dunn at (508) 655-9149 if you’d like to offer your wares.  Friday, November 16 is a preview for Friends of the Wayland Library from 5-8 p.m.  The regular sale is November 17 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and November 18 from 12-4 p.m.
  • November is National Novel Writing Month. Bring your ideas and writing tools (or use one of our laptops) to our NaNoWriMo Write-In on Wednesday, November 14 from 7-9 p.m.  Plug into the energy of your fellow scribes, coming and going as you please.  We’ll have coffee and tea for you.  Teens welcome!  On Saturday, November 17 at 3 p.m. in the Rotunda, take in the lively creations of the Boston Typewriter Orchestra.  Six typists combine performance, comedy, and satire to make music that’s utterly unique.  On Sunday, November 18 at 3 p.m., catch the absorbing documentary California Typewriter, a provocative meditation on the changing dynamic between humans and machines, with the insights of such typewriter stalwarts as Tom Hanks, David McCullough, and John Mayer.  Then sit down at the typewriter in our foyer and share your thoughts about the whole thing.

BABY AND PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAMS

  • Weekly Storytimes
    • Mother Goose Time (Infants-2.5 years) Tuesdays, Nov. 6, 13, and 20 at 10:30 a.m.
    • StoryVine (2.5 -5 years) Thursdays, Nov. 15, and 29 at 10:30 a.m.
  • Inclusive Playgroup: Stories, Songs, and Sign. This interactive, inclusive music and literacy group is for young children at all levels of communication and ability. Facilitated by Beverly Mobilia of Wayland Community Partnerships for Children and Families. For ages newborn to 3 years. Wednesdays, Nov. 14 at 12:15-1:00p.m.
  • Storytime with Corbyn the Dog. Children will listen to dog stories and have a chance to visit with Corbyn, a beautiful Samoyed. Corbyn (with her owner Helen) has been certified as a therapy dog by Pets and People Foundation.  For ages 3 and up. Thursday, November 8, 10:30 a.m.
  • WCPA Pajama Storytime and Color a Smile. WCPA will be holding this event to support two amazing non profits: Color a Smile and Pajama Program. Your little ones can come in their PJ’s for a pajama story time (led by Youth Services librarian Pam McCuen) and color cheerful drawings that WCPA will send to senior citizens, our troops overseas and anyone in need of a smile. Please also bring a new pair of PJ’s (for kids newborn through age 18). Saturday, November 10, 10-11:30 a.m.
  • Music and Movement. Get your wiggles out! Songs, dances, and stretches for walkers to age 5. Wednesday, November 22, 10:30-11:00 a.m.

SCHOOL-AGE PROGRAMS

  • Lego Club. Children will make fabulous creations out of Legos. This month’s theme is Flying Machines! For ages 5 and up. Wednesday, November 7, 3:00-4:00p.m.
  • What’s Our Story?: Puppeteers. Join us for a reading of picture book biographies about two puppeteers: Tony Sarg, who created giant balloon puppets, and Ashley Bryan, who makes puppets from just about anything! Children will make their own puppets from recycled materials. Led by librarian Elise Katz. For children in grades 1 to 3, with caregiver. Wednesday, November 14, 3:30-4:30 p.m.
  • Drop-in Craft: Thanksgiving Decorations. Get crafty and make decorations for the Thanksgiving table! For ages 5 and up. Wednesday, November 21, 3:00-4:30 p.m.
  • Let’s Build: Zip Line Challenge. Let’s Build is a hands-on building workshop for kids in grades 3-5. Each month will feature a different building challenge. This month’s Let’s Build Challenge is to build a zip line that can carry a ping pong ball down. Let’s Build workshops are run by Wayland High School Seniors Eileen Chau and Julia Treese. Wednesday, November 28, 3:00-4:30 p.m.

FOR TEENS

  • Franken-Toys. Teens! Unleash your creativity by taking apart old toys and putting them back together in weird combinations. There will be prizes for strangest, silliest, and more! Supplies provided but toy donations welcome. For teens in grades 6 to 12. Monday, November 5, 2:45-4:15 p.m.
