ADULT PROGRAMS

  • Tell Your Story of Immigration. As we explore themes of immigration and refugees for the coming year’s edition of Wayland Reads (watch this space!), we’d like to hear from Wayland residents who have firsthand experience. If you would like to share your story in a public program at the Library in March, please contact MJ at mwright@minlib.net or call 508-358-2311.
  • Exhibit Reception: Origami and More. Lisa B. Corfman has been an artist in a variety of styles, but origami (paper-folding art) spanning mixed media has been her focus since 2001. A proud BFA, Lisa works at the Claypit Hill School BASE program in the afternoons, where she paints with the kids and has created many scenes in tempura with a touch of origami. There will be a reception with the artist on Sunday, January 20, 3:30-4:30 p.m.
  • Raising and Keeping Chickens 101. Lisa Bougoulas of the Chelmsford Agway will lead this how-to seminar on raising your own chickens. Come learn what supplies you need, what to expect, what kinds of different breeds of chickens are available, and where to buy them in the spring. Thursday, January 17 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Carl Hobert: How Rwanda Saved My Life. Wayland resident Hobert had been working for years to help the government of Rwanda with education reform and youth-focused conflict resolution. Then, in March 2018, he was rescued from near-death in a Kigali hospital. His is a story of medical collaboration, empathy, and miracles, told truly from the heart. He is the author of Raising Global IQ: Preparing our Students for a Shrinking Planet. Wednesday, January 30 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Tech Help by Appointment. Did you get a new digital gizmo over the holidays and don’t know how to use it? Do you have one already that you still can’t quite figure out? Call or drop in to schedule a one-on-one Help session with a member of our crack reference staff. We’ll do our best to get you up and running. 508-358-2311.

BABY AND PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAMS

  • Weekly Storytimes
    • Mother Goose Time (Infants-2.5 years) Tuesdays, Jan. 15 and 22 at 10:30 a.m.
    • StoryVine (2.5 -5 years) Thursdays, Jan. 17, 24, and 31 at 10:30 a.m.
  • Inclusive Playgroup: Stories, Songs, and Sign. This interactive, inclusive music and literacy group is for young children at all levels of communication and ability. Facilitated by Beverly Mobilia of Wayland Community Partnerships for Children and Families. For ages newborn to 3 years. Wednesday, Jan. 23, 11:15-12:00p.m.
  • Storytime at the Farmer’s Market. Join librarians from Wayland and Sudbury for storytime at the Wayland Winter Farmer’s Market. Storytimes will be held on the second floor of Russell’s Garden Center, 397 Boston Post Road. For ages babies to age 5, with caregiver. Saturdays, January 19, & 26, 11:00-11:30 a.m.
  • Brain Building Storytime. Storytime, parachute play, and brain building activity. Program led by Beverly Mobilia of Wayland Community Partnerships for Children and Families. For ages 2 to 5, with parent/caregiver. Wednesdays, January 16 and 30, 11:15a.m.-12:00p.m.

SCHOOL-AGE PROGRAMS

  • World Record Challenges. Have you ever wanted to set a world record? Stop by for an afternoon of World Record Challenges! See if you can be the fastest person to assemble a Mr. Potato Head while blindfolded or be the person able to hold the most tennis balls in one hand. There will be a scavenger hunt and prizes! For ages 5 and up. Wednesday, January 16, 3:30-4:30 p.m.
  • Tech Petting Zoo. We are rolling out our new tech toys in our Library of Things! Try out the Code-a-Pillar, the Ozobot, the Dash Bot, and the Cubetto! For children ages 4 and up, with caregiver. Thursday, January 17, 4:30-5:30 p.m.
  • Drop-in Family Game Day. Spend quality time with your kids and play games at the library! We will have board games and card games set up to play. For ages 4 and up, with caregiver. Wednesday, January 23, 3:00-4:30 p.m.
  • Let’s Build: Strongest Paper Bridge. Let’s Build is a hands-on building workshop for kids in grades 3-5. Each month will feature a different building challenge. This month’s challenge is to build a paper bridge that can hold the most coins. For kids in grades 3-5. Let’s Build workshops are run by Wayland High School Seniors Eileen Chau and Julia Treese. Wednesday, January 30, 3:00-4:30 p.m.
  • Girls Who Code for Grades 3 to 5. The Wayland Public Library is offering a Winter/Spring Girls Who Code club for girls in grades 3 to 5. This club will teach basic coding in an engaging and creative way to girls in the upper elementary grades. The club will meet every Monday, January 28 through April 8, (except for school holidays) and will be facilitated by a Wayland parent and other volunteers. The library will supply laptops for the girls to use during class. Girls who were in the fall session are welcome to register for the Winter/Spring club and new girls are welcome to join. FOR TEENS

Late Night Pizza Study Nights for Teens During Exam Week, January 22, 23, and 24. Wayland High School Students! Feed your brain while studying with your friends at the library! Pizza will be served at 5:30 p.m. Snacks will be served throughout the evening. The library will stay open until 11 p.m. just for you. We hope you ace your exams.
