ADULT PROGRAMS 

  • Carl Hobert: How Rwanda Saved My Life. Wayland resident Hobert had been working for years to help the government of Rwanda with education reform and youth-focused conflict resolution.  Then, in March 2018, he was rescued from near-death in a Kigali hospital.  His is a story of medical collaboration, empathy, and miracles, told truly from the heart.  He is the author of Raising Global IQ: Preparing our Students for a Shrinking Planet.  Wednesday, January 30 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Cooking with Chocolate, Sweet and Savory. Chocolate is not just dessert; it’s everything you need! Join chef Liz Barbour and learn about the different types of chocolate, how to select a chocolate based on its fat and sugar content, and how to use chocolate as the main ingredient in recipes that are not just for dessert.  Enjoy a cooking demonstration of two delicious recipes, and samples.  Registration is required.  Monday, February 4 at 7 p.m.
  • Tech Help by Appointment. Did you get a new digital gizmo over the holidays and don’t know how to use it?  Do you have one already that you still can’t quite figure out?  Call or drop in to schedule a one-on-one Help session with a member of our crack reference staff.  We’ll do our best to get you up and running. 508-358-2311.
  • Art Reception Snow Date. If the library has closed on January 20 because of weather, the artist’s reception scheduled for that day will be held on Tuesday, January 29 from 6:30-7:30.

BABY AND PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAMS

  • Weekly Storytimes
    • Mother Goose Time (Infants-2.5 years) Tuesdays, Jan. 22, Feb. 5, 12, and 19 at 10:30 a.m.
    • StoryVine (2.5 -5 years) Thursdays, Jan. 24, 31, Feb. 14 at 10:30 a.m.
  • Inclusive Playgroup: Stories, Songs, and Sign. This interactive, inclusive music and literacy group is for young children at all levels of communication and ability. Facilitated by Beverly Mobilia of Wayland Community Partnerships for Children and Families. For ages newborn to 3 years. Wednesday, Jan. 23, Feb. 13 and 27 at 11:15-12:00p.m.
  • Storytime at the Farmer’s Market. Join librarians from Wayland and Sudbury for storytime at the Wayland Winter Farmer’s  Market. Storytimes will be held on the second floor of Russell’s Garden Center, 397 Boston Post Road. For ages babies to age 5, with caregiver. Saturdays, January 26, Feb. 2, 16 and 23 at 11:00-11:30 a.m.
  • Brain Building Storytime. Storytime, parachute play, and brain building activity. Program led by Beverly Mobilia of Wayland Community Partnerships for Children and Families. For ages 2 to 5, with parent/caregiver. Wednesdays, January 30, and Feb. 20 at 11:15a.m.-12:00p.m.
  • Zumba. Rhythm and dance program led by Hayley Chizinsky of H2K Happy Healthy Kids Fitness Studio. For ages 2.5 to 4 years. Tuesday, January 29, at 10:30 a.m.

SCHOOL-AGE PROGRAMS

  • Drop-in Family Game Day. Spend quality time with your kids and play games at the library! We will have board games and card games set up to play. For ages 4 and up, with caregiver. Wednesday, January 23, 3:00-4:30 p.m.
  • Let’s Build: Strongest Paper Bridge. Let’s Build is a hands-on building workshop for kids in grades 3-5. Each month will feature a different building challenge. This month’s challenge is to build a paper bridge that can hold the most coins. For kids in grades 3-5. Let’s Build workshops are run by Wayland High School Seniors Eileen Chau and Julia Treese. Wednesday, January 30, 3:00-4:30 p.m.
  • Girls Who Code for Grades 3 to 5. The Wayland Public Library is offering a Winter/Spring Girls Who Code club for girls in grades 3 to 5. This club will teach basic coding in an engaging and creative way to girls in the upper elementary grades. The club will meet every Monday, January 28 through April 8, (except for school holidays) and will be facilitated by a Wayland parent and other volunteers. The library will supply laptops for the girls to use during class. Girls who were in the fall session are welcome to register for the Winter/Spring club and new girls are welcome to join. FOR TEENS: Late Night Pizza Study Nights for Teens During Exam Week. January 22, 23, and 24. Wayland High School Students!  Feed your brain while studying with your friends at the library! Pizza will be served at 5:30 p.m.  Snacks will be served throughout the evening. The library will stay open until 11 p.m. just for you.  We hope you ace your exams.
