ADULT PROGRAMS

  • Wayland Reads: Live From Cairo Author Appearance. As Wayland Reads winds down, don’t miss our culminating event.  Author Ian Bassingthwaighte will read from his terrific novel and answer questions.  Sunday, April 7 at 3 p.m.
  • Google Drive Basics. In this hands-on workshop, students will learn the basic features of Google’s online storage and document services. Please come with a  laptop or we can supply one for you. Class is limited to five students. Please sign up online or by calling the library.  Tuesday, April 9 from 1:30-3 p.m.
  • The Great Presenters: Japanese Woodblock Prints at the MFA with Joan Blair. The Museum of Fine Arts has almost 50,000 Japanese woodblock prints—the largest collection outside of Japan.  Considered ordinary posters by 19th century Japanese, they were collected by an eccentric group of Bostonians who subsequently donated them to the Museum.  Joan will speak about the prints, her experience on the team that prepared them for display, and how that opened the door to a post-retirement career as a Museum of Fine Arts docent.  Tuesday, April 9 at 7 p.m.
  • Unseen Treasures of the Northern Cloud Forest of Peru. Only in the last 50 years, a small group of archaeologists and professional explorers have begun to reveal the stunning treasures of the Chachapoya. We invite you to discover some of these hidden wonders when Daniel Fernandez-Davila, Peruvian archaeologist, brings alive the warriors of the northern cloud forest of Peru.  Wednesday, April 10 at 7 p.m.
  • Introduction to Jewish Genealogy. Presenter Carol Clingan has traced her grandparents’ families back to the early 19th century in the former Soviet Union, and has done extensive research for other relatives and friends.  She is the Research Projects Coordinator of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Greater Boston, and has been a member of the Board for 17 years.  Sunday, April 14 at 2 p.m.
  • Ask the Ornithologist. Where’s the best place for birding in Wayland?  What kinds of birds will I see?  How can I attract birds to my yard?  What seed should I put out?  Ornithologist (and Wayland Conservation Commission Land Manager) Brian Harris will give a brief presentation on birding in Wayland, showcasing his photography.  Then he’ll answer all those questions, and any others you might have.  Wednesday, April 17 at 7:30 p.m.

BABY AND PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAMS

  • Sing-along with Jeannie Mack. Jeannie Mack will perform all kinds of fun, bounce-around, sing-along songs geared for young children. Plenty of opportunity for audience participation. For babies, toddlers, and preschoolers, with caregiver. Thursday, April 4, at 10:30 a.m.
  • Weekly Storytimes
    • Mother Goose Time (Infants-2.5 years) Tuesdays, April 9, 16 and 23 at 10:30 a.m.
    • StoryVine (2.5 -5 years) Thursday, April 11 at 10:30 a.m.
  • Inclusive Playgroup: Stories, Songs, and Sign. This interactive, inclusive music and literacy group is for young children at all levels of communication and ability. Facilitated by Beverly Mobilia of Wayland Community Partnerships for Children and Families. For ages newborn to 3 years. Wednesday, April 24 at 11:30-12:15 p.m.
  • Brain Building Storytime. Storytime, parachute play, and brain building activity. Program led by Beverly Mobilia of Wayland Community Partnerships for Children and Families. For ages 2 to 5, with parent/caregiver. Wednesday, April 17 at 11:15 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
  • Sensory Storytime. Children will sing songs, listen to stories, and make a simple craft. If your child has difficulty sitting through our other story times, this program might be for you. For ages 2 and up, with caregiver.  Saturday, April 20, 11:00-11:30 am.
  • Storytime with Corbyn the Dog. Children will listen to dog stories and have a chance to visit with Corbyn, a beautiful Samoyed. Corbyn (with her owner Helen) has been certified as a therapy dog by Pets and People Foundation.  For ages 3 and up. Thursday, April 25 at 10:30 a.m.
  • Zumba. Rhythm and dance program led by Hayley Chizinksy of H2K Happy Healthy Kids Fitness Studio. For ages 2.5 to 4 years. Tuesday, April 30 at 10:30 a.m.

SCHOOL-AGE PROGRAMS

  • Poetry Palooza. Children will create block-out poems, make their own word magnets for poetry fun at home, decorate leaves for our Poet-Tree, and participate in a scavenger hunt.  For ages 6 and up. Wednesday, April 10, 3:30-5:00 p.m.
  • Let’s Build: Strongest Catapult. Let’s Build is a hands-on building workshop for kids in grades 3-5. Each month will feature a different building challenge. This month’s challenge is to build the strongest catapult. For kids in grades 3-5. Let’s Build workshops are run by Wayland High School Seniors Eileen Chau and Julia Treese. Wednesday, April 24, 3:00-4:30 p.m.
  • Parent/Child Book Group. This book discussion group is for 4th and 5th graders with a parent. April’s book is The Goldfish Boy by Lisa Thompson. We will also choose the book for next month. For 4th and 5th graders with a parent. Wednesday, April 24, 7:00-8:00 p.m.

FAMILY PROGRAMS

  • Children’s Concert. Young musicians ages 4 to 11 from the Wayland School of Music will perform short group and solo pieces at a family-friendly concert. All ages welcome. Saturday, April 6, 3:00-4:30 p.m.
  • Teddy Bear Picnic. Join us for stories, snacks, and fun at a donation event and teddy bear storytime. This event is hosted by the Wayland Children and Parent Association and is being held in support of the nonprofit organization Project Smile. Children can bring a stuffed animal in excellent condition to donate to Project Smile. For the whole family. Storytime for babies to age 5. Saturday, April 27, 10:30-11:30 a.m.

Vacation Week Specials:

  • Creature Teachers: Nature in Your Backyard. Educator Richard Roth from Creature Teachers will teach children about the animals that live in New England. He will bring several live animals to his program, possibly including an opossum, a woodchuck, a porcupine, and a snapping turtle. For ages 3 and up, with caregiver. Tuesday, April 16, 2:00-3:00 p.m.
  • Drop-in Crafts: Spring Fling. Children are invited to make colorful and creative spring crafts. Led by librarian Elise Katz. Wednesday, April 17, 3:30-5:00 p.m.
  • Lindsay and Her Puppet Pals. Lindsay and her larger than life puppets will perform several short plays that will delight children and the young at heart. For ages 3 and up. Thursday, April 18, 10:30-11:30 a.m.

FOR TEENS

Teen Advisory Board Meeting. Come to the first TAB meeting in the new “in progress” teen space on the mezzanine. We need teen input on décor for the new space, future teen programming, and more. We will make crafts and enjoy refreshments. For teens. Thursday, April 25, 2:45-4:00 p.m.
