As the U.S continues to experience an increase in extreme weather events, New England, has also experienced increased occurrences including the winter storm of 2018, the drought of 2016, and the ice storms of 2008. We find ourselves in an era of more unpredictable and severe weather that can potentially cause more damage to the Town of Wayland. Wayland received a grant from the state Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness program, designed to prepare communities for climate related hazards.

The Town has partnered with the Metropolitan Area Planning Council to bring together community members to identify and prioritize steps to reduce risk and improve resilience. This will help clarify and advance climate resilience planning and hazard mitigation efforts. On April 16, 2019, a public listening workshop will be held to discuss how climate change may impact the Town of Wayland. The workshop will be held from 6:30 – 8pm in the Selectmen’s meeting room at the Town Hall.

The goal of this workshop is to educate the public about climate change and to discuss the priority action items that have been identified to minimize and mitigate the impacts of climate change. These recommendations include actions to protect public health and safety and minimize impacts to the environment and our local economy. Residents and business owners are invited to attend and provide their input as part of this on-going effort to plan for the Town’s future.
