Wayland Depot Railroad Brush Clearing, May 4 & 5

The Wayland Historical Commission is sponsoring its 18th annual volunteer Spring Brush Clearing at the Wayland Depot, 1 Cochituate Road, Saturday, May 4 (9am – 4pm) and Sunday, May 5 (1pm – 4pm).

Volunteers are encouraged to come either day to help remove brush, vines and undergrowth along the inactive preserved railroad tracks alongside the Rail Trail west of Wayland Depot. We will also continue to clear the Turntable Pit, the Enginehouse Site, Water Tank Foundations and a side track to expose more of these historic artifacts for Trail users to see.

The Wayland Rail Trail between the Depot and Rte. 20 was built in December, 2016, and the trail east of the Depot was built in 2018. We will focus on clearing brush from the preserved track in the Historic District so that it can be better appreciated by users of the Trail, and so that it will be an attractive part of the future Wayland Railroad Interpretive Site alongside the Rail Trail.

Bring work gloves and pruning tools, shovels, and wear work clothes and boots. For more information, please contact Richard Conard.
