The Wayland Wizards would greatly appreciate your support for this group of children embracing STEM concepts within a creative, team based program as they compete representing Massachusetts in the global Destination Imagination finals.
The Destination Imagination program encourages teams of learners to have fun, take risks, focus and frame challenges while incorporating STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), the arts and service learning. All of the programs are project based, teaching the creative process from imagination to Innovation.
The members of Wayland’s Middle School Team, the Wayland Wizards, chose to solve the Scientific Challenge “Medical Mystery” which required them to
create a story about their character and their solution and design and build all the props needed to present an eight minute solution to tell the story they created.
Starting in October, the team has worked together every week right up until the regional competition. On March 16th, at the regional competition, they achieved 1st place competing against 16 local towns. On March 30th, at the State Competition (competing against 15 regions), their performance earned them again 1st place and a spots at the Global Final’s competition which will be held in Kansas City MO, from May 22 – 26.
While this team has worked extremely hard and is eager to present their efforts at the Global Finals, they can’t do that without your financial support. They are looking to raise money to help defer the cost of this trip. The cost is $1,600 per child for registration and travel, for a total cost of $8,000 to get the team to the championship.
