ADULT PROGRAMS

• Spring Book and Bake Sale. You can donate your books at the Town Hall Large Hearing Room on Wednesday and Thursday, May 1 and 2. Baked goods will be accepted from Friday until the end of the sale on Sunday.  Friday, May 3 is a preview for Friends of the Wayland Library from 5-8 p.m.  The regular sale is May 4 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and May 5 from 12-4 p.m.  We would love your help!  Contact Carole Schneider (508-358-1012 or CSS11@comcast.net) to volunteer for setup, work during the sale, and especially baked goods donations.  This fundraiser helps support many library programs, including museum passes.
• Help Shape the Library’s Future. To qualify for essential funds from the state, we have to submit a Strategic Plan every five years.  An integral part of crafting that plan is learning what library patrons want from us as we make the most of our venerable space.  Please take just a few minutes to complete our online survey (accessible at waylandlibrary.org) or pick up a paper copy at the library before the end of the month.  Thanks!
• Learn about Pollinators and Make a Mason Bee Hotel. Wayland resident Kaat Vander Straeten will teach us about pollination from the point of view of the insects, the flowers, the farmer, and the 100% of our population that gets to eat!  Then we’ll construct hotels for the solitary, but busy, mason bee, and learn about this fascinating species as we do.  Thursday, April 25 at 7:30 p.m.
• TED Walks! A Discussion and Walking Group. We’ll watch a 20-minute TED talk, discuss it for 20 minutes indoors, then—weather permitting–take a 30-minute walk to continue the discussion.  Come for any part of the program. This month: Why Humans Run the World with Yuval Noah Harari.  Friday, April 26 at 10 a.m.

BABY AND PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAMS

• Weekly Storytimes
  • Mother Goose Time (Infants-2.5 years) Tuesday, April 23, May 7, 14 and 21 at 10:30 a.m.
• Inclusive Playgroup: Stories, Songs, and Sign. This interactive, inclusive music and literacy group is for young children at all levels of communication and ability. Facilitated by Beverly Mobilia of Wayland Community Partnerships for Children and Families. For ages newborn to 3 years. Wednesdays, May 8 and 22 at 11:30-12:15 p.m.
• Storytime with Corbyn the Dog. Children will listen to dog stories and have a chance to visit with Corbyn, a beautiful Samoyed. Corbyn (with her owner Helen) has been certified as a therapy dog by Pets and People Foundation.  For ages 3 and up. Thursday, April 25 at 10:30 a.m.
• Brain Building Storytime. Storytime, parachute play, and brain building activity. Program led by Beverly Mobilia of Wayland Community Partnerships for Children and Families. For ages 2 to 5, with parent/caregiver. Wednesdays, May 15 and 29 at 11:15 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
• Zumba. Rhythm and dance program led by Hayley Chizinksy of H2K Happy Healthy Kids Fitness Studio. For ages 2.5 to 4 years. Tuesday, April 30 at 10:30 a.m.

SCHOOL-AGE PROGRAMS

• Lego Club. Children will make fabulous creations out of legos.  This month’s theme: Star Wars!  For children ages 5 and up. Wednesday, May 1, 3:00-4:00 p.m.
• Drop-in Craft: Make a Gift for Mom. Drop in and make a gift and a card for mom. Wednesday, May 8, 3:30-5:00 p.m.
• What’s Our Story?: Planting Trees. Learn about two remarkable women with a passion for planting trees: Wangari Maathai and Kate Sessions.  After listening to picture book biographies about these two women, children will decorate flowerpots and plant their own pizza herb gardens.  Wednesday, May 22, 3:30-4:30 p.m.

FAMILY PROGRAMS

• Teddy Bear Picnic. Join us for stories, snacks, and fun at a donation event and teddy bear storytime. This event is hosted by the Wayland Children and Parent Association and is being held in support of the nonprofit organization Project Smile. Children can bring a stuffed animal in excellent condition to donate to Project Smile. For the whole family. Storytime for babies to age 5. Saturday, April 27, 10:30-11:30 a.m.
• Literacy Fair: Featuring local preschools and musician Jeannie Mack. Families with preschool age children are welcome to join us for Wayland Public Library’s first ever literacy fair.  Children can challenge themselves with brain building activities created by teachers at local preschools; parents will have the opportunity to chat with the teachers. Musician Jeannie Mack will perform at 11 am. A children’s librarian will give a storytime at 12 noon.  There will be face painting, refreshments, and a special visit from Curious George!  Saturday, May 4, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

FOR TEENS: Teen Advisory Board Meeting. Come to the first TAB meeting in the new “in progress” teen space on the mezzanine. We need teen input on décor for the new space, future teen programming, and more. We will make crafts and enjoy refreshments. For teens. Thursday, April 25, 2:45-4:00 p.m.
