ADULT PROGRAMS

  • Spring Book and Bake Sale. You can donate your books at the Town Hall Large Hearing Room on Wednesday and Thursday, May 1 and 2. Baked goods will be accepted from Friday until the end of the sale on Sunday.  Friday, May 3 is a preview for Friends of the Wayland Library from 5-8 p.m.  The regular sale is May 4 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and May 5 from 12-4 p.m.  We would love your help!  Contact Carole Schneider (508-358-1012 or CSS11@comcast.net) to volunteer for setup, work during the sale, and especially baked goods donations.  This fundraiser helps support many library programs, including museum passes.
  • Shower for Shelters. The Sudbury-Wayland-Lincoln Domestic Violence Roundtable is holding a “Shower for Shelters” through Monday, May 13.  Families transitioning from a shelter appreciate your gift of new household items to help them establish their new homes.  Unwrapped gifts (new items only, please) may be delivered to the Wayland Library.  Particularly useful gifts include kitchen items, bathroom items, and bed linens.
  • Manage Your Stress with Acupuncture. Learn how acupuncture can help keep us healthy as a preventive measure, as well as help us regain our health when disease has just started.  Understand how acupuncture can complement western medicine.  Saharnaz Rezania, Chinese medicine practitioner, will discuss the root of over 90% of diseases from the Chinese medicine perspective and how to prevent them. Tuesday, May 7 at 7 p.m.
  • Trivia Night. We play four rounds of five questions each.  Categories vary and include current affairs, pop culture, sports, history, science, and everything in-between.  Watch our Facebook page for clues! Registration is required.  Sign up as a team of 2-6 people, or as an individual willing to be placed on a team.  Thursday, May 16, 7-9 p.m.

BOOK GROUPS

BABY AND PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAMS

  • Weekly Storytimes
    • Mother Goose Time (Infants-2.5 years) Tuesdays, May 7, 14 and 21 at 10:30 a.m.
  • Inclusive Playgroup: Stories, Songs, and Sign. This interactive, inclusive music and literacy group is for young children at all levels of communication and ability. Facilitated by Beverly Mobilia of Wayland Community Partnerships for Children and Families. For ages newborn to 3 years. Wednesdays, May 8 and 22 at 11:30-12:15 p.m.
  • Music & Movement. Miss Maureen will lead kids and caregivers in upbeat songs, dances, and stretches. For walkers to age 5. Thursday, May 2, 10:30-11:00 a.m.
  • Storytime with Corbyn the Dog. Children will listen to dog stories and have a chance to visit with Corbyn, a beautiful Samoyed. Corbyn (with her owner Helen) has been certified as a therapy dog by Pets and People Foundation.  For ages 3 and up. Thursday, May 9 at 10:30 a.m.
  • Brain Building Storytime. Storytime, parachute play, and brain building activity. Program led by Beverly Mobilia of Wayland Community Partnerships for Children and Families. For ages 2 to 5, with parent/caregiver. Wednesdays, May 15 and 29 at 11:15 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

SCHOOL-AGE PROGRAMS

  • Drop-in Craft: Make a Gift for Mom. Drop in and make a gift and a card for mom. For children ages 4 and up. Wednesday, May 8, 3:30-5:00 p.m.
  • What’s Our Story?: Planting Trees. Learn about two remarkable women with a passion for planting trees: Wangari Maathai and Kate Sessions.  After listening to picture book biographies about these two women, children will decorate flowerpots and plant their own pizza herb gardens.  For children in grades 1 through 3, with caregiver. Wednesday, May 22, 3:30-4:30 p.m.
  • Let’s Build: Lego Mystery Challenges. Let’s Build is a hands-on building workshop for kids in grades 3-5. Each month will feature a different building challenge. This month’s challenge is a mystery Lego challenge. Pick a card and build the challenge.  Kids can build as many Lego challenges as they want. For kids in grades 3-5. Let’s Build workshops are run by Wayland High School Seniors Eileen Chau and Julia Treese. Wednesday, May 15, 3:00-4:30 p.m.=

Drop-in Family Game Day. Spend quality time with your kids and play games at the library! We will have board games and card games set up to play. For ages 4 and up, with caregiver. Wednesday, May 29, 3:00-4:30 p.m.

FAMILY PROGRAMS

Literacy Fair: Featuring local preschools and musician Jeannie Mack  Join us for Wayland Public Library’s first ever literacy fair.  Children can challenge themselves with brain building activities created by teachers at local preschools; parents will have the opportunity to chat with the teachers. Musician Jeannie Mack will perform at 11 am. A children’s librarian will give a storytime at 12 noon.  There will be face painting, refreshments, and a special visit from Curious George!  For toddlers, preschoolers, and their parents. Saturday, May 4, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m
