The Wayland Cultural Council is seeking new members!

If you support the existence of cultural activities in town, consider joining this appointed board and be involved in the process. As part of the Massachusetts Cultural Council’s Local Cultural Council (LCC) program, the committee disburses state appropriated funds. Wayland is one of 329 such local councils supporting projects in the arts, humanities and sciences through a grant application process.

New members are welcome to join before the next granting cycle begins in the fall. Contact Co-chair Rachel Sideman-Kurtz at rsideperson023@gmail.com to learn more.

This year the council awarded $6,271 to 13 recipients including the upcoming performance “Unveiled,” at Congregation Or Atid and the performance “Isabella” at the Council on Aging (COA) both occurring this month. Awards also supported the Wayland Public Libray’s “Wayland Reads” and the Chinese American Association’s Lunar New Year Celebration earlier this year. Grants funded “Silent Night” by the Vokes Players as well as DeCordova’s EBT $1 Admission Program, the Discovery Museum’s “Free Friday Night Fun” program and forthcoming signage for heirloom trees at Heard Farm. Grants also supported the Control Freaks, Wayland High School’s Robotics Team and student participation in the Massachusetts High School Drama Festival hosted at the high school. In addition, grants were awarded for a performance of the Musicians of the Old Post Road, the library program, “A Universe of Stories” and the COA program “Songbirds of the Northeast.”

If you would like to have a role in bringing such programs to fruition, your interest and enthusiasm are welcome. You can learn more about the Wayland Cultural Council
