Weston Drama Workshop announces 57th summer season

Weston Drama Workshop, a nonprofit youth summer theater organization based in Weston, has recently announced this summer’s exciting lineup of productions to be performed in July at Regis College’s Fine Arts Center. Founded in 1962 and incorporated in 1963, WDW has been proudly producing professional-quality shows starring local youth performers in the Weston community for nearly six decades. The program is open to participants entering 5th grade through age 23.

Matilda, the Musical, the Tony Award-winning production based on Roald Dahl’s classic tale, will be this summer’s Morning Program musical, featuring students entering 5th grade through entering 9th . The story of an extraordinary young girl navigating the trials and tribulations of childhood, Matilda will be directed by Aidan O’Hara and features music and lyrics by Tim Minchin. A limited number of spots are available in this program, and auditions will take place Saturday, May 18th. Some students in this age range will also participate in the currently full Afternoon Theatre Intensive program, which this year will stage pilot production of a new show to be announced soon.

WDW will also produce three productions as a part of their Evening Program, which serves participants entering 9th grade through age 23. This year’s shows include Legally Blonde, an energetic musical based on the well-known motion picture, directed by Skylar Grossman with music and lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin; The Wolves, a play by Sarah DeLappe about an adolescent soccer team, directed by Stephanie Manning Recine; and Spring Awakening, the angsty rock musical with music by Duncan Sheik, directed by Chris Brindley.

All shows will be performed July 18-27 at the Regis College Fine Arts Center, and tickets will go on sale to the public later this spring. For further information on these productions, and to register for the 57th season, visit www.westondramaworkshop.org.
