Sons of Italy now has Wayland chapter, next meeting June 20

Members of the Metro West community interested in joining the Sons of Italy have something to celebrate. Wayland now has its very own chapter.

“La Familia Di Metro West” has been approved by the organization’s national committee and the Wayland chapter is now officially Lodge 2997. The founding officers of the chapter were officially “installed” at the Sons of Italy in Watertown this spring.

Coming off a successful first gathering in mid-May, the group is hosting its next social meeting on June 20th from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM at the Weston Shooters Club, 8 Sibley Road in Weston. The evening is a chance to meet and greet fellow prospective members, friends and supporters of the organization. Attendees are welcome to bring guests and are asked to RSVP by June 17th to Jim Sdoia at jsdoia@gmail.com or 617-834-9028 and include the number of people attending.

The foundation for a Wayland chapter of the Order of the Sons of Italy was built over several evenings of homemade wine and Italian cheeses in the basement of Dr. Bob DeFrancesco. DeFrancesco, Joseph Mastroianni, Gino Coppola and Jim Sdoia, all of Wayland, wanted to find a way to bring their Italian culture and a greater sense of community to the town. “We hope to represent the next generation of Italian Americans in the Sons of Italy organization and we look forward to sharing our love for Italian culture, history and heritage as we give back to the community we call home,” says DeFrancesco.

The lodge has yet to find a permanent physical location in Wayland and is currently weighing several options.
