• Woodstock: A 50th Anniversary Celebration. Combining rare audio, archival film, captivating stories, songs, and guided music-making, master percussionist, author, educator, and radio host Craig Harris will be leading a multimedia, participatory, and fun-filled 50th anniversary celebration of the culturally groundbreaking Woodstock Music and Art Festival.  Thursday, June 27 at 2 p.m.
• Take the Adult Summer Reading Challenge–Win Prizes!
  • Who: Any adult with a library card.
  • What: Earn raffle tickets for reading and for library-related activities.  Log your progress online, call, or stop by the Reference Desk to report your activities.
  • When: Tickets can be earned June 12th through August 29th.
  • Where: The Wayland Library and wherever you read.
  • Why: Dude–prizes!  Oh, and, of course, reading is good.  And so is supporting the Library.
• Library Services for the Homebound. We provide home delivery of library items to Wayland residents of any age who are unable to visit the library due to a permanent or temporary disability or extended illness.  With this program, you can have full access to library services.  Call 508-358-2311 or fill out the form on our web site.

BABY AND PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAMS

• Weekly Storytimes
  • Mother Goose Time (Infants-2.5 years) Tuesdays, June 25 at 10:30 a.m.
  • StoryVine (2.5 -5 years) Thursdays, June 20 and 27 at 10:30 a.m.
• Inclusive Playgroup: Stories, Songs, and Sign. This interactive, inclusive music and literacy group is for young children at all levels of communication and ability. Facilitated by Beverly Mobilia of Wayland Community Partnerships for Children and Families. For ages newborn to 3 years. Wednesdays, July 10 and 24 at 11:30-12:15 p.m.

SCHOOL-AGE PROGRAMS

• Bluestar Planetarium Show. The Bluestar Planetarium will be coming to the Wayland Library on Tuesday, June 25. There will be two shows:
  • 2:00-2:45 p.m. In My Backyard. In this show children will be introduced to the night sky that they can see from their backyard. They will learn the phases of the moon and how their view of the constellations and planets changes with the seasons. For ages preK through grade 2.
  • 3:00-3:45 p.m. Oasis in Space. In this show children will learn where water might be in the galaxy. This is an excellent introduction to the solar system. For children in grades 2 and up.

Seating is limited. Only 30 people will be allowed in each show. Tickets will be given out starting at 1 p.m.  The Planetarium will be set up in the Library’s Rotunda on the first floor.

• Drop-in Craft: Create Your Own Planet. Children will create their own planets with spin-art, torn paper, goop, and recycled cd’s. Led by Librarian Elise Katz. For ages 4 and up. Wednesday, June 26, 3:30-5:00 p.m.
• Drop-in Craft: Kindness Rocks. Children are invited to decorate their own kindness rocks. Remember: there is only one you! Let’s make this world better, together. This project is inspired by Linda Kranz’s book Only One You. For ages 5 and up. Tuesday, July 2, 3:30-5:00 p.m.

FOR TEENS: Something new is brewing for you! Check out the new teen space in the mezzanine. New furniture has arrived!  It is beautiful!  Books and materials will be moving up soon!

SEEKING VOLUNTEERS FOR NEXT YEAR’S GIRLS WHO CODE CLUB. The Wayland Library Girls Who Code Club is looking for volunteer facilitators for the 2019-2020 academic year. Affiliated with the national Girls Who Code organization (girlswhocode.com) and its mission of closing the gender gap in technology, the Wayland club brings together middle and high school girls for hands-on learning about code and technology. We also have a club for girls in grades 3 to 5. Enthusiasm for working with the girls is required; technical skill is helpful but not necessary, especially if you are willing to learn along with them. If you are interested, or would like to know more, please contact Head of Youth Services Pam McCuen at pmccuen@minlib.net.  If you want to be notified when registration starts for next year’s club, contact Pam as well.

Summer Reading!

• The Wayland Public Library’s Summer Reading Program A Universe of Stories for kids in preK through Grade 5.  Sign up for our Summer Reading Program A Universe of Stories has started. This summer we will Read to Bead.  When you sign up you will get a goodie bag, a brag tag, a necklace chain, and a paper log to keep track of your reading. The more you read, the more beads you earn to add to your brag tag necklace.  (You can also sign up online if you prefer, and get your brag tag and goodie bag when you come to the library.)  We are offering lots of entertaining programs throughout the summer, including a magic show, an indoor Planetarium, a puppet show, a musical performance celebrating folk music and instruments from around the world, a Moon Party, a Star Wars Day, a Rube Goldberg Machine workshop, craft programs and an Ice Cream Social.  All participants in the children’s summer reading program will be given a free book. The Summer Reading Club is funded by the Friends of the Wayland Library, the Wayland Cultural Council, the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, and the Boston Bruins.
• The Wayland Public Library’s Teen Summer Reading Program A Universe of Stories for teens in grades 6 and up. Teens who register online and write at least one original book review will win a prize, and be entered into a raffle for a free Kindle Fire.  There will also be programs for teens this summer, including a comic book workshop, a cooking class, a movie night, and a pizza party.
