ADULT PROGRAMS

  • Korean Culture Celebration: Film and Food. Join members of the Korean Spirit & Culture Promotion Project for a survey of Korean history and culture.  Through two short films and a presentation, attendees will learn about classical and modern South Korea, the sixth-largest export country in the world.  After the presentation, a traditional Korean meal will be served in Bangjja bronzeware, an ancient form of Korean tableware.  Registration is required.  Saturday, September 28 from 12-3 p.m.
  • Author Talk: The Karl Muck Scandal. Melissa Burrage tells the story of how BSO conductor Muck fell victim to anti-German prejudice during the First World War.  Wednesday, September 25 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Great Presenters: Adventures with NOVA. As the NOVA’s Science Editor for over two decades, Wayland resident Evan Hadingham oversees editorial accuracy, evaluates ideas for new programs, and works on the storytelling of each episode.  In this talk, Evan will highlight some of NOVA’s notable past shows and offer a taste of some exciting future programs.  He’ll also discuss the challenge of communicating science to the public in a fast-changing media landscape, and touch on the personal history that led him to his job at NOVA.  Tuesday, October 1 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Author Talk: A Doll for a Day: Growing up in Post-War KoreaChoi Kyung-Shin vividly recalls the first student anti-government demonstration in Taegu and the military revolution of the May 16 coup d’etat. What were this young Korean girl’s dreams? How did she learn to speak up?  How did she support herself and stay in school?  Choi Kyung-Shin is an author and Fulbright Scholar who has been a teacher, an educator and writer.  She lives in Framingham.  Wednesday, October 2 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Shakespeare’s Language: King LearShakespeare aficionado Joel Angiollilo will share his research on our modern understanding of the language of King Lear versus the meanings a 17th-century audience would have heard.  Lear is being performed by the Actors Shakespeare Company October 3-27th.  Wednesday, October 9 at 6:30 p.m.
  • Author Talk: How to Build Executive Function in Kids. Michael Delman, CEO of Beyond BookSmart, shares insights with parents from his book, Your Kid’s Gonna Be Okay: Building the Executive Function Skills Your Child Needs in the Age of Attention.  Thursday, October 10 at 7:30 p.m.

BABY AND PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAMS

  • Weekly Storytimes
    • Mother Goose Time (Infants-2.5 years) Tuesdays, Oct. 1, 8, 15, and 22 at 10:30 a.m.
    • StoryVine (2.5 -5 years) Thursdays, Sept. 26; Oct 10, 17 and 31 at 10:30 a.m.
  • New! Pop-Up Playtime. Drop in for a morning of pretend play, early literacy activities, and sensory fun for little ones and their caregivers. For children babies to 3 years old, with caregiver. Monday, September 30, 10:30-11:30 a.m.
  • Infant Lapsit and Tummy Time. Together we will learn fun and interactive ways to promote early brain development. Our group includes soft songs and lap bounces, tummy time and core-strengthening activities, and early communication. Facilitated by Beverly Mobilia of Community Partnerships for Children and Families. For age newborn to 1 year, or pre-walkers, with caregiver. We will meet in the play area of the Children’s Room.   • Sing-along with Jeannie Mack. Jeannie Mack will perform all kinds of fun, bounce-around, sing-along songs for young children. Plenty of opportunity for audience participation! For babies, toddlers, and preschoolers with caregiver. Thursday, October 3, at 10:30 a.m.
  • Storytime with Corbyn. Children will listen to dog stories and have a special canine visitor!  Corbyn, a beautiful Samoyed, and his owner Helen will join us. For ages 3 and up. Thursday, October 10, 10:30 a.m.
  • Kids Yoga. Sonia Gomez from Serfi Yoga will give a yoga class for children, toddlers to age 5. Thursday, October 10, 1:30-2:15 p.m.

SCHOOL-AGE PROGRAMS

  • Lego Club. Children will make fabulous creations out of legos. This month’s theme: Haunted Houses! For ages 5 and up. Wednesday, October 2, 3:00-4:00 p.m.
  • Family Movie Afternoon: Toy Story 4Children are invited to watch the movie Toy Story 4 at the library! Running time is 100 minutes. Rated G. Popcorn will be served. For ages 4 and up. Wednesday, Oct. 9, 3:00-5:00 p.m.

FOR TEENS

  • Teen Crafternoon. Teens! Drop by with some friends to this first teen crafternoon in the new Teen Loft. Tuesday, Oct. 8, 3:30-5:00 p.m. For teens in grades 6 and up.
  • TEEN LOFT OPEN HOUSE. The Teen Loft is officially open! We are celebrating with an Open House! Please join us for light refreshments in the Teen Loft. The Friends of the Wayland Public Library and the Library would like to thank Middlesex Savings Bank for their generous donation of $15,000, which helped make the Teen Loft possible. Thursday, Sept. 26, 7 p.m.

SEEKING PARENT VOLUNTEERS FOR GIRLS WHO CODE CLUBS. We are seeking parent volunteers to facilitate our Girls Who Code clubs.  We need one more volunteer for the Girls Who Code Club for girls in grades 3 -5, and one more volunteer for the GWC club for girls in grades 6 and up. WAYLAND SCHOOL BUS WILL HAVE A STOP AT THE LIBRARY THIS FALL! This year, a certain number of seats on Bus 3 will be allocated each day for middle and high school students who’d like to stop at the library after school.  This option is for students who are registered to ride the bus and have purchased a bus pass.
