ADULT PROGRAMS

  • TED Talk and Walk: The Power of Introverts. We start by watching a TED talk in the Raytheon Room.  Then we hit the road for some perambulatory discussion.  This month, author Susan Cain argues that introverts bring extraordinary talents and abilities to the world, and should be encouraged and celebrated.  Friday, December 13 from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
  • Wayland Ukulele Club Holiday Performance. Enjoy the supple and scintillating string sounds of the WUC in the Library rotunda.   Complimentary coffee and tea will be available. Sunday, December 15 from 3 to 3:30 p.m.
  • Holiday Wrapping Party. Stop by the library for a festive gift wrap party.  Enjoy coffee and tea, treats, holiday music and company!  Bring your gifts to wrap.  We’ll provide the paper, ribbon, scissors and tape! We’ll also gratefully accept donations of wrapping paper and ribbon.  Thursday, December 19 from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m.
  • New Tutors Trained in Wayland Library’s ESOL Program. Immigrants in our area who want to improve their fluency in English now have greater opportunities.  Ten generous and enthusiastic people have recently completed a training course and are now certified to be tutors of ESOL.  They will work one-on-one with learners from all over the world.  The next free tutor-training course starts on February 24.  Tutors do not need to know another language, nor every detail of English grammar.  For more information, contact Ginny Steel at 508-358-7517 or at virginia@thesteels.com.
  • Wanted: Raytheon Room Art for January. The Library Raytheon Room has ample display space for works large and small.  Contact Elizabeth Bradley at the Library for information and an application.

BABY AND PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAMS

  • Weekly Storytimes
    • Mother Goose Time (Infants-2.5 years) Tuesdays, Dec. 17 and 24 at 10:30 a.m.
    • StoryVine (2.5 -5 years) Thursdays, Dec. 12, 19 and 26 at 10:30 a.m.
  • Inclusive Playgroup: Stories, Songs, and Sign. This interactive, inclusive music and literacy group is for young children at all levels of communication and ability. Facilitated by Beverly Mobilia of Wayland Community Partnerships for Children and Families. For ages newborn to 3 years, with caregiver. Wednesday, December 11, 11:30-12:15 p.m.
  • Kids Yoga. Sonia Gomez from Serfi Yoga will give a yoga class for children, toddlers to age 5. Thursday, December 12, 1:30-2:15 p.m.
  • Noon Year’s Eve Party. Ring in the New Year early at the library! There will be crafts, games, a dance party, and more. We will countdown to noon and have a special celebration when the clock strikes 12. Drop in! For ages 3 and up. Tuesday, December 31, 10:30-12 p.m.

SCHOOL-AGE PROGRAMS

  • Kids Chess Club. Children will learn chess and get tips to improve their game. This is a beginner’s club for children with little or no chess experience. Wayland High School Junior Miranda Lee will lead the club. We will be meeting once a month. For children ages 7 and up. Thursday, December 12, 4:00-4:45 p.m.
  • 4th/5th Grade Parent/Child Book Group. This book discussion group is for 4th and 5th graders with a parent. December’s book is The Vanderbeekers of 141st Street by Karina Yan Glaser. Tuesday, December 17, 7:00-8:00 p.m.
  • Dog Man Afternoon. Celebrate the release of the latest Dog Man book with an afternoon of fun inspired by everyone’s favorite half dog, half police officer! Drop in to create comics, play games, and attempt to foil Petey’s latest scheme by following the clues in a scavenger hunt. For ages 5 and up. Wednesday, December 18, 3:30-5:00 p.m.
  • Family Movie Afternoon. Children are invited to watch the movie Abominable at the library! Running time 97 minutes. Rated PG. Popcorn will be served. Friday, December 27, 2:00-4:00 p.m.

FOR TEENS

  • TAB Meeting: Cookie Decorating. Teens! Come to our Teen Advisory Board meeting and Cookie Decorating Party! Snack and let us know what programs YOU would like at the Wayland Public Library. We will meet in the Teen Loft. (Gluten free options available.) For teens in grades 6 and up.  Friday, December 13, 3:30-4:30 p.m.
  • Holiday Gift Wrapping Party for Teens. Bring in your holiday gifts and wrap them in plenty of time for the holidays. Librarian Laura will lead the gift wrapping workshop and WHS student Jaelin will teach calligraphy for those of you who want to make the gift tags extra special. The library will supply gift wrap and ribbon. Thursday, December 19, 7:00-8:00 p.m.
