Let’s Talk About Racism, conversations starts January 13

Let’s Talk about Racism, informal drop-in conversations facilitated by Rachel Sideman-Kurtz (rsideperson@yahoo.com).  Meets at First Parish in Wayland, 50 Boston Post Rd.  Mondays at 7pm

  • Monday, January 13: I’m Racist?  Let’s Discuss.  Let’s discuss how believing “I’m not racist” is not helpful when discussing racism. We’ll consider definitions and semantics, opening our hearts and minds to the state of our society.
  • Monday, February 10: What We’re Reading and Watching. Let’s share what we are learning on our own, and bring questions for discussion.
  • Monday, March 16: Knowing Better, Doing Better. Do you feel a call to action? What are your efforts? Let’s share our successes and challenges and draw inspiration from each other
  • Monday, April 13: The Economics of Race. We will consider our country’s history, exploring how government policies and practices have created disparity based on race that we experience today. Can we undo this damage?
  • Monday, May 11: Looking in the Mirror: Hallmarks of White Culture. We’ll consider the ways white culture not only exists, but pervades our society and how it makes cross-cultural communication and interaction challenging
