ADULT PROGRAMS

  • Help Get Out the Vote. The program will begin with an excerpt from Suppressed: The Fight to Vote, a new documentary by Robert Greenwald about voter suppression in the 2018 Georgia election, followed by a brief, facilitated discussion.  Then attendees will have an opportunity, if they wish, to fill out postcards encouraging eligible voters who have been purged to re-enroll and vote.  Discussion leaders Joel Silberman and Jean Milburn are Wayland residents who share a passion for making every voice heard.  Friday, January 24 at 10:00 a.m.
  • Sunday Sips & Sounds: Jose Allende. Enjoy a free concert and cup of coffee in the library rotunda, once a month from January through May.  Guitarist Allende fuses Afro-Peruvian and other South American and Latin rhythms with contemporary jazz harmonies.  Sunday, January 26 at 3 p.m.
  • Wayland Ukulele Club. The WUC is for anyone over 16 who wants to have fun with music.  All skill levels are welcome.  Starting off with easy chords and tunes, we’ll learn and play songs from across the musical spectrum, from oldies to modern pop.  Registration is required.  BYO Ukulele!  Monday, January 27, February 3, 10 & 24, 7:30 p.m.  Performances February 25 & March 1.
  • The Great Presenters: Black Hole Monsters.  Ironically, black holes create the most luminous objects in the universe.  Alan Marscher & Svetlana Jorstad study super-massive black holes at the centers of galaxies, and are members of a team that recently imaged the “black hole shadow” in the center of the galaxy M87.  Tuesday, February 4 at 7:30 p.m.

BABY AND PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAMS

  • Weekly Storytimes
    • Mother Goose Time (Infants-2.5 years) Tuesdays, Feb. 4, 11, and 18 at 10:30 a.m.
    • StoryVine (2.5 -5 years) Thursdays, Jan. 16, 23 and 30; Feb. 13, 20 and 27 at 10:30 a.m.
  • Inclusive Playgroup: Stories, Songs, and Sign. This interactive, inclusive music and literacy group is for young children at all levels of communication and ability. Facilitated by Beverly Mobilia of Wayland Community Partnerships for Children and Families. For ages 1 to 3 years, with caregiver. Wednesday, February 12 and 19, 11:30-12:15 p.m.
  • Prewalkers Lapsit. Together we will learn fun and interactive ways to promote early brain development. Our group includes soft songs and lap bounces, which encourage early communication. Facilitated by Beverly Mobilia of Community Partnerships for Children and Families. For ages newborn to 1 year, or pre-walkers, with caregiver. Wednesdays, Feb. 5 and 26, 11:30-12 p.m.
  • Zumba. Rhythm and dance program for children ages 2.5 to 4 years old. Led by Hayley Chizinksy of H2K Happy Healthy Kids Fitness Studio. Tuesday, January 28, 10:30-11:00 a.m.
  • Singalong with Jeannie Mack: Stories, Songs, and Sign. Jeannie Mack will perform all kinds of fun, bounce-around, sing-along songs geared for young children. Plenty of opportunity for audience participation! For ages babies to 4 years. Thursday, February 6, 10:30-1:15 a.m.

SCHOOL-AGE PROGRAMS

  • Family Game Day. Spend quality time with your kids and play games at the library! We will have board games and card games set up to play. Drop in! For ages 4 and up. Wednesday, January 22, 3:00-4:30 p.m.
  • Storybook Theatre. Children will listen to the folktale Marushka and the Month Brothers, and then make simple costumes and props and act out the story. Register online or with a librarian. For ages 5 and up. Wednesday, January 29, 3:00-4:30 p.m.
  • Lunar New Year Celebration. Celebrate the year of the rat! Join Coco Zhou and teachers from the Wayland Chinese Afterschool Program for a Lunar New Year Celebration. For ages 4 and up. Saturday, February 1, 2:00-3:00 p.m.
  • Lego Club. Children will make fabulous creations out of legos. This month’s theme: Winter Wonderland. For ages 5 and up. Wednesday, February 5, 3:00-4:00 p.m.
  • Girl Who Code Club.  The Wayland Public Library is offering a Winter/Spring session of Girls Who Code club for girls in grades 3-5, which will meet on Monday afternoons, from 4:30 to 6:00, January 28 to April 13, (excluding February 17 and March 30).  The mission of Girls Who Code is to help bridge the gender gap in the technology fields.  Wayland’s club will be led by Wayland parent volunteers, and the club will meet in the Raytheon Room of the library. FOR TEENS

  • Late Night Pizza Study Nights for Teens. Wayland High School Students!  Feed your brain during Exam Week, while studying with your friends at the library.  The library will stay open until 11 p.m. just for you.  We’ll serve pizza at 5:30 and snacks throughout the evening.  We hope you ace your exams.  January 21, 22, and 23.
  • TAB Meeting: Books & Brownies. Teens! Eat treats and talk books at this Teen Advisory Board Meeting. Thursday, January 30, 3:30-4:30 p.m.
  • Girls Who Code Club. The Wayland Public Library is offering a Winter/Spring session of Girls Who Code for girls in grades 6 and up, which will meet every Tuesday, February 25 through May 26 (except school holidays.)   • Storytime at Russell’s Winter Farmer’s Market. Join librarians from Wayland Public Library and Goodnow Library for storytime at the Russell’s Winter Farmers’ Market. Storytimes will be held on the second floor of Russell’s Garden Center, located at 397 Boston Post Road. For ages babies to 5, with caregivers. Saturdays, January 25, February 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29, 11:30-12:00 p.m.
