ADULT PROGRAMS

  • ?

    Wayland Ukulele Club. The WUC is for anyone over 16 who wants to have fun with music.  All skill levels are welcome.  Starting off with easy chords and tunes, we’ll learn and play songs from across the musical spectrum, from oldies to modern pop.  Registration is required.  BYO Ukulele!  Monday, January 27, February 3, 10 & 24, 7:30 p.m.  Performances February 25 & March 1.

  • The Great Presenters: Black Hole Monsters.  Ironically, black holes create the most luminous objects in the universe.  Alan Marscher and Svetlana Jorstad study super-massive black holes at the centers of galaxies, and are members of a team that recently imaged the “black hole shadow” in the center of the galaxy M87.  Tuesday, February 4 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Scanning Petroglyphs in the Peruvian Jungle. Archaeologist and Wayland teacher Daniel Fernandez-Davila will update us on his latest trip to Peru, where he and a group of 12 others collected scanned data of ancient artifacts to be used for further research and display in local museums.  The results have shown early carvings that were not expected for that region.  Wednesday, February 5 at 7:30 p.m.
  • TED Walks. One Friday a month, we watch a 20-minute TED talk, discuss it for 20 minutes indoors, then—weather permitting—take a 30-minute walk to continue the discussion.  This month’s topic: “How Economic Inequality Affects Society” with public health researcher Richard Wilkinson.  Friday, February 7 at 10 a.m.
  • Rachel Borges: Songs of Love and Revenge. Relax with a cup of coffee or tea at a free concert in the Rotunda during our monthly Sunday concert series.  Rachel Borges is a singer/songwriter in the Boston area. Born and raised in New Jersey, she is a graduate of Berklee College of Music.  This program is supported in part by a grant from the Wayland Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.  Sunday, February 9 at 3 p.m.

BABY AND PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAMS

  • Singalong with Jeannie Mack: Stories, Songs, and Sign. Jeannie Mack will perform all kinds of fun, bounce-around, sing-along songs geared for young children. Plenty of opportunity for audience participation! For ages babies to 4 years. Thursday, February 6, 10:30-1:15 a.m.
  • Weekly Storytimes
    • Mother Goose Time (Infants-2.5 years) Tuesdays, Feb. 4, 11, and 18 at 10:30 a.m.
    • StoryVine (2.5 -5 years) Thursdays, Jan. 30; Feb. 13, 20 and 27 at 10:30 a.m.
  • Pop-Up Playtime. Drop in for a morning of pretend play, early literacy activities, and sensory fun for little ones and their caregivers. For children ages 0 to 3, with caregiver. Friday, January 31, 10:30-11:30 a.m.
  • Inclusive Playgroup: Stories, Songs, and Sign. This interactive, inclusive music and literacy group is for young children at all levels of communication and ability. Facilitated by Beverly Mobilia of Wayland Community Partnerships for Children and Families. For ages 1 to 3 years, with caregiver. Wednesday, February 12 and 19, 11:30-12:15 p.m.
  • Prewalkers Lapsit. Together we will learn fun and interactive ways to promote early brain development. Our group includes soft songs and lap bounces, which encourage early communication. Facilitated by Beverly Mobilia of Community Partnerships for Children and Families. For ages newborn to 1 year, or pre-walkers, with caregiver. Wednesdays, Feb. 5 and 26, 11:30-12 p.m.

SCHOOL-AGE PROGRAMS

  • Lunar New Year Celebration. Celebrate the year of the rat! Join Coco Zhou and teachers from the Wayland Chinese Afterschool Program for a Lunar New Year Celebration. For ages 4 and up. Saturday, February 1, 2:00-3:00 p.m.
  • Lego Club. Children will make fabulous creations out of legos. This month’s theme: Winter Wonderland. For ages 5 and up. Wednesday, February 5, 3:00-4:00 p.m.
  • Valentine’s Day Crafts. Drop in and make Valentine’s Day cards and crafts for yourself, your family and your friends. Ages 4 and up. Wednesday, February 12, 3:00-4:30 p.m.
  • Kids Yoga. Sonia Gomez from Serfi Yoga will give a yoga class for children, toddlers to age 5. Thursday, February 13, 1:30-2:15 p.m.
  • Kids Chess Club. Children will learn chess and get tips to improve their game. This is a beginner’s club for children with little or no chess experience. Wayland High School Junior Miranda Lee is the club leader. For children ages 7 and up. Thursday, February 13, 4:00-4:45 p.m.
  • Let’s Build: Saturday Lego Time. Get together with your friends and build with legos at the library. Drop-in! For ages 4 and up. Saturdays, February 8, 15, and 29, 2:00-3:00 p.m.
  • Girl Who Code Club. The Wayland Public Library is offering a Winter/Spring session of Girls Who Code club for girls in grades 3-5, which will meet on Monday afternoons, from 4:30 to 6:00, January 28 to April 13, (excluding February 17 and March 30).  The mission of Girls Who Code is to help bridge the gender gap in the technology fields.  Wayland’s club will be led by Wayland parent volunteers, and the club will meet in the Raytheon Room of the library. FOR TEENS

  • Teen Winter Reading Challenge. This winter, Wayland teens can earn raffle tickets for prizes by completing reading, activity, and social media challenges. Teens who register for the Winter Challenge will automatically earn a raffle ticket! Teens can also earn raffle tickets on Beanstack by logging reading, writing book reviews, attending teen events at the library, and tagging us on social media during weekly challenges. Teens will be able to add their raffle tickets to drawings for 3 different prize packs up until March 1st. Once the Winter Challenge period is over, we will draw names to pick the prize winners.   • TAB Meeting: Books & Brownies. Teens! Eat treats and talk books at this Teen Advisory Board Meeting. Thursday, January 30, 3:30-4:30 p.m.
  • 6th Grade Parent/Child Book Group. This book discussion group is for 6th graders with a parent. February’s book is Loot by Jude Watson. We will meet in the Teen Loft. Wednesday, February 5, 7:00-8:00 p.m.
  • Girls Who Code Club. The Wayland Public Library is offering a Winter/Spring session of Girls Who Code for girls in grades 6 and up, which will meet every Tuesday, February 25 through May 26 (except school holidays.) FOR FAMILIES

  • Storytime at Russell’s Winter Farmer’s Market. Join librarians from Wayland Public Library and Goodnow Library for storytime at the Russell’s Winter Farmers’ Market. Storytimes will be held on the second floor of Russell’s Garden Center, located at 397 Boston Post Road. For ages babies to 5, with caregivers. Saturdays, February 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29, 11:30-12:00 p.m.
  • WCPA Story and Service Event. The WCPA and the Wayland Library are partnering with Pajama Program to collect new kid’s books and new pajamas (for ages newborn through 18) for children in need. Join us for a kid-friendly storytime and a valentine craft. For families with young children. (Donations will be accepted all month in a donation bin outside the children’s room.) Saturday, February 8, 10:00-11:00 a.m.
