ADULT PROGRAMS

  • Sports Medicine: Not Just for the Professional Athlete. As part of our Great Presenters series, Dr. James Karlson will share his experience treating athletes, from professionals to weekend warriors.  He’ll also review common sports injuries, standard treatment, and injury prevention.  A resident of Wayland since 1996, Dr. Karlson was the volunteer team physician for the Wayland High School football team for 20 years. Tuesday, March 3 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Introduction to Google Calendar. Do you know people who rely on Google Calendar rather than paper calendars? Access your calendar on any smartphone, tablet or computer. It’s even possible to layer calendars for such things as soccer games, class schedules, appointments, and birthdays. Learn the basics of creating events on Google Calendar so you can keep track of all those important dates! Tuesday, March 3 at 2:00 p.m.
  • Sunday Sips & Sounds: Jose Allende. Enjoy a free concert and a cup of coffee or tea in the library rotunda during our monthly concert series, now through May. Elizabeth and Ben Anderson, a Boston-based Scottish fiddle and cello duo, will blend Scottish tunes with lively rhythms and innovative harmonies. The Anderson siblings create a sound rooted in tradition and inspired by the contemporary. Sunday, March 8 at 3 p.m.

BABY AND PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAMS

  • Weekly Storytimes
    • Mother Goose Time (Infants-2.5 years) Tuesdays, March 3, 10, 17 and 24 at 10:30 a.m.
    • StoryVine (2.5 -5 years) Thursdays, February 27;  March 12, 19 and 20 at 10:30 a.m.
  • Singalong with Jeannie Mack: Stories, Songs, and Sign. Jeannie Mack will perform all kinds of fun, bounce-around, sing-along songs geared for young children. Plenty of opportunity for audience participation! For ages babies to 4 years. Thursday, March 5, 10:30-11:15 a.m.
  • Prewalkers Lapsit. Together we will learn fun and interactive ways to promote early brain development. Our group includes soft songs and lap bounces, which encourage early communication. Facilitated by Beverly Mobilia of Community Partnerships for Children and Families. For ages newborn to 1 year, or pre-walkers, with caregiver. Wednesdays, March 11 and 25, 11:30-12 p.m.
  • Inclusive Playgroup: Stories, Songs, and Sign. This interactive, inclusive music and literacy group is for young children at all levels of communication and ability. Facilitated by Beverly Mobilia of Wayland Community Partnerships for Children and Families. For ages 1 to 3 years, with caregiver. Wednesdays, March 4 and 18, 11:30-12:15 p.m.
  • Kids Yoga. Sonia Gomez from Serfi Yoga will give a yoga class for children, toddlers to age 5. Thursday, March 12, 1:30-2:15 p.m.

SCHOOL-AGE PROGRAMS

  • Let’s Build: Saturday Lego Time. Get together with your friends and build with legos at the library. Drop-in! For ages 4 and up. Saturday, February 29, 2:00-3:00 p.m.
  • Lego Club. Children will make fabulous creations out of legos. This month’s theme: Woodland Creatures. For ages 5 and up. Wednesday, March 4, 3:00-4:00 p.m.
  • Luck of the Irish: Can You Catch a Leprechaun? Children will listen to an Irish folktale, build a leprechaun trap, and snack on Irish soda bread. For ages 5 and up. Wednesday, March 11, 3:00-4:30 p.m.
  • Kids Chess Club. Children will learn chess and get tips to improve their game. This is a beginner’s club for children with little or no chess experience. Wayland High School Junior Miranda Lee is the club leader. For children ages 7 and up. Thursday, March 12, 4:00-4:45 p.m.

FOR TEENS

  • Teen Winter Reading Challenge. This winter, Wayland teens can earn raffle tickets for prizes by completing reading, activity, and social media challenges. Teens who register for the Winter Challenge will automatically earn a raffle ticket! Teens can also earn raffle tickets on Beanstack by logging reading, writing book reviews, attending teen events at the library, and tagging us on social media during weekly challenges. Teens will be able to add their raffle tickets to drawings for 3 different prize packs up until March 1st. Once the Winter Challenge period is over, we will draw names to pick the prize winners. Register on Beanstack today!
  • Teen Crafternoon: Sculpey Keychains. Teens! Drop in to make keychains and miniatures out of polymer clay. We will meet in the teen loft. Thursday, February 27, 4:00-5:00p.m.
  • Girls Who Code Club. The Wayland Public Library is offering a Winter/Spring session of Girls Who Code for girls in grades 6 and up, which will meet every Tuesday, March 3 through May 26 (except school holidays.)   • 6th Grade Parent/Child Book Group. This book discussion group is for 6th graders with a parent. March’s book is New Kid by Jerry Craft. Need a copy? Come to the Children’s Room and check one out. Wednesday, March 4, 7:00-8:00 p.m. We will meet in the Teen Loft.

FOR FAMILIES

Storytime at Russell’s Winter Farmer’s Market. Join librarians from Wayland Public Library and Goodnow Library for storytime at the Russell’s Winter Farmers’ Market. Storytimes will be held on the second floor of Russell’s Garden Center, located at 397 Boston Post Road. For ages babies to 5, with caregivers. Saturdays, February 29; March 7 & 14 11:30-12:00 p.m.
