ADULT SERVICES

  • National Library Week April 19-25: Find the Library at Your Place. If you haven’t taken advantage of all we have to offer, even while we’re “closed,” now would be a good time.  Start at waylandlibrary.org and look at the Library Spotlight for the Daily Special and A Little Something for kids.  While you’re there, lose yourself in the wealth of resources at Adult Services Central, including free streaming movies, books, and audiobooks.  Click on the Blog to see all the Daily Specials for the last month.  Then download—for free—”Libraries Reimagined” (tinyurl.com/y96rplcp), a fascinating series of programs from the radio show Humankind.  They show how libraries, even as they evolve with these rapidly changing times, remain fundamental to democracy.  We’re here for you, even when you can’t be here.
  • 3D Printers Redeployed for Town’s Covid-19 Response. The Library’s two 3D printers are very busy!  While the library building is closed, they’re printing parts for face shields and N95 masks for first responders. This Town effort is a collaboration between Town management and the Library Trustees. Special thanks to Tyler Kenney, Library Reference & Computer Specialist; Beth Doucette, Assistant Town Administrator; and Mike McCann, Town IT Director. • Lynda is Back! Lynda.com–everyone’s favorite training and education database–returns to our roster of resources.  Simply log in with your Wayland library card and PIN, and enjoy access to thousands of courses.  Learn a new career skill or brush up a current one in software or web development, design, photography, and many more in business, education, and other fields.  You’ve got the time—now you’ve got the means, too.
  • Remote Reference by Phone. Of course, we’ve always provided reference by phone, but never while we were closed.  Unusual times call for unusual measures, however.  If you have a reference question, feel free to call (508) 358-2311 and follow the recorded prompt.  We’ll check that mailbox every morning and get back to you as soon as we can.
  • Explore Cookbooks on Libby. Are you missing the Library’s great selection of cookbooks?  Daily recipes getting boring when you can’t dine out?  Fear not!  The library’s Libby ebook app offers a fantastic variety of digital cookbooks available to you at the push of a key (or tap of a touch screen) under its “Cooking & Food” category.
  • ESOL Goes Online. If you want to improve your English, or know someone who does, you can meet with a tutor online or by phone until you don’t have to be socially distant anymore.  Go to https://waylandlibrary.org/esol-for-students/ for an application.  After you’ve applied, someone will phone you when a tutor is available.
