ADULT SERVICES

  • Free Wi-Fi in Our Parking Lot. If you don’t have it at home, or yours is down, just pull into our lower lot.  Look for a network called “wayland_hotspot_8,” then enter the password “wyl_hotspot#8.”  Please practice safe, six-foot distancing and use the Library’s wireless access in a legal and responsible manner.   We’re here for you even when you can’t be here.
  • Virtual Trivia Night. Kick off your Memorial Day Weekend, such as it is, with trivial fun.  We’ll meet using Zoom and answer using either Google Forms or pen, paper, and the good ol’ honor system.  Play on your own, bring your team of quarantine-mates, or gather your friends on a virtual team via text chain, gchat, or mental telepathy–whatever works for you.  Click on Events at our home page, scroll down, and sign up.  Friday, May 22 at 7 p.m.
  • Ask Your Legislators to Support Libraries. As the state legislature considers the FY21 budget, it’s important to let them know how much we value libraries.  When you fill out the form at tinyurl.com/yaqggaxz, you’ll be directed to a form letter that you can send to your state legislators.  It specifies the line item numbers that increase state aid to public libraries, which is more important now than ever.  There’s also a link to write to senators and representatives in Congress.  Thank you for advocating for us!
  • No-Wait Audiobooks on Hoopla. You really want a book to listen to, but everything on Overdrive has a wait list.  Hoopla to the rescue!  The titles are not the newest but there’s a tremendous selection and they’re always available.  Look for books by your favorite authors, or browse the categories.  If you don’t have an account, click on the Hoopla icon at waylandlibrary.org, or download the free app to your device.  Then find something you like and start enjoying it right away.
  • Database of the Month: Access World News by Newsbank. Access World News not only covers a vast array of topics and issues from more than 10,000 news sources. It also arranges articles in easy-to-use subject headings, and allows you to create a folder to store selected articles.  Special Reports take an in-depth look at important subjects, and Hot Topics gathers together the most current articles on important research areas. Log in from home and explore this fabulous resource.  Wayland residents only.
  • Learn a Language With Mango. You’ve been saying for years that you wanted to learn a language.  Well, now’s the time to carpe the diem!  Mango offers thoughtfully structured courses that allow you to learn at your own pace in more than 70 languages, including (besides the usual suspects) Igbo, Kazakh, Tamil, and Cherokee.  Mango also offers ESOL instruction geared to native speakers of 21 languages.  Go to Online Services on our home page, then Language to set up your free account.  Bonne chance!
