WHS Orchestra participates in virtual masterclass with US Marine Band and Chamber Orchestra

Members of the Wayland High School Orchestras attended a virtual masterclass on Monday, May 18, 2020, given by members of The “President’s Own” US Marine Band and Chamber Orchestra.

MGySgt. Peter Wilson, violin and MGySgt. Aaron Clay, string bass, performed repertoire that they perform at the White House and for various diplomatic functions.  They discussed their backgrounds, careers, chamber music, arranging repertoire to suit the sitting president and first lady, as well as the wide variety of musical tastes of the administrations over the past 30 years.  They also performed some of their own duets and arrangements from their freelance duo, “Bridging the Gap.”
The musicians took questions from WHS students which ranged from dealing with nerves to whether politics played a part in repertoire selection.
