When will early voting/absentee ballots be mailed?

The Clerk’s Office expects to receive ballots for the November 3rd election by October 5th, and no later than October 9th, and will begin mailing them as soon as they arrive.

How to receive a ballot by mail

Registered voters who requested ballots for BOTH the September 1st and November 3 elections before the September 1st primary, are all set and do not need to request another ballot.  Voters who did not request a mail-in ballot for the November 3rd election in August should have received a postcard application froth the Secretary of the Commonwealth in the last few days.

If you cannot remember if you requested a ballot be mailed to you for the November 3rd election, you can check the online “Track My Ballot” (link accessible on the Town Clerk’s website).  If your status is “pending” for the November 3rd election, you have already applied to receive a ballot.   If you did not receive an application in the mail or did not receive an application, you can fill out, and sign by hand, a vote-by mail application (accessible on the Town Clerk’s website).  Please do not submit a duplicate application.

The deadline to request a vote by mail ballot is Wednesday, October 28th.   The Secretary of the Commonwealth, William Galvin, recommends mailing our application no later than Tuesday, October 20th (two weeks before the election) to ensure it is processed in time.  The Clerk’s office strongly recommends getting your request in as soon as possible.  You can email your application to townclerk@wayland.ma.us, fax it to (508) 358-1683, or mail it to the Clerk’s Office at 41 Cochituate Rd, Wayland.

How to return your ballot

If you chose to mail your ballot, it must be postmarked by Tuesday, November 3rd and must be received in the Clerk’s Office by 4pm, Friday, November 6ith to be counted.  If you choose to hand deliver your ballot it must be deposited in our secure drop boxes by 8pm on Tuesday, November 3rd no later than 8pm.  There are two secure drop boxes, one outside the front entrance to the Public Safety Building and one inside the vestibule of Town Hall (aka as the Treasurer’s Office secure drop box).  Vote by mail ballots cannot be returned to the polls.
