• Archaeology West of Boston. Native Americans have lived in southern New England for 10,000 years or more.  Tonya Largy, a Wayland resident and archaeological consultant, will discuss how archaeologists learn about ancient peoples from several lines of evidence, including stone tools, ceramics, and the remains of animals and plants found during excavations; and how dates are obtained from these materials. • Everything to Gain and Nothing to Lose: African-American Women in Boston’s Women’s Suffrage Movement. How did African-American women participate in local suffrage efforts, and how did their activism extend beyond women’s suffrage?  Join National Parks of Boston’s Public Historian Katie Woods, as we discover and elevate the voices of women who fought for equal rights for women and African-Americans alike.  Register here or through our home page.  Monday, October 19 at 7 p.m.

• Pumpkin Decorating Contest. Enter our 2nd annual Pumpkin Decorating Contest! Compete for best carved or best decorated pumpkin in your age group. We will have contests for kids ages 3-11, teens ages 12-18, and adults ages 19 and up. Submit photos of your pumpkin by October 26, then vote online. Winners will be announced on October 30th! • Parenting for Social Justice through Co-Constructive, Race-Conscious Reading. Join Megan Dowd Lambert and Autumn Allen for an online presentation and discussion about reading picture books with children through a race-conscious lens. In this interactive session, our guests will share their expertise on 1) how to guide children to and through picture books with positive racial representations; and 2) how to support children in resisting or reading against problematic, racist content. • New! Social Justice Storytime on ZOOM. Join Ms. Carly for a storytime that centers on social justice issues! This family friendly storytime will feature books, songs, and flannel boards that offer children and caregivers tools for meaningfully engaging with topics like anti-racism, LGBTQ+ rights, and the Black Lives Matter movement. • Gen Z Trivia Night. This trivia night is for the tweens and teens of Generation Z! We’ll meet over Zoom for trivia about music, sports, pop culture, and more. Play on your own or gather your friends on a virtual team via text chain, gchat, or mental telepathy – whatever works for you! Players are welcome to add a millennial or a boomer to their team but adults be warned, these questions will be tailored to Gen Z interests and knowledge base. For ages 9-19. • For Freedoms Project Lawn Signs: For Teens. Teens! Let your voices be heard! What are your hopes for your lives, your community, your country, the world? We will be posting lawn signs in front of the library later this month that will give you a voice. We encourage you to share your hopes by filling out the prompts that read “Freedom For…”; “Freedom From..” “Freedom of..” and “Freedom to…”  We need to do this in a socially distant way…so please email Pam at pmccuen@minlib.net if you want to share what you want written on the For Freedom lawn signs. This initiative is inspired by the For Freedoms 50 State Initiative.
