ADULT SERVICES

  • The Library is (Sort of) Open Again! We are so very pleased to welcome patrons back into the Library!  You can now make an appointment for 30 minutes of browsing or computer time on Mondays and Thursdays, 4:15-7:45.  Tuesdays through Fridays, 9:15-9:45, are reserved for seniors and at-risk.  We’re limiting the number of visitors to eight at a time, with no more than four in a group.  Our stacks and the Children’s Room remain closed, but a large part of our main floor has been reconfigured into a browsing area with selections from all of our holdings.  Librarians, including Youth Services Librarians, will be on hand to retrieve materials from off-access areas upon request.  Masks are required for one and all and, regrettably, there’s nowhere to sit. Look for complete information at the link at waylandlibrary.org.  Book an appointment through our Events calendar, or give us a call at 508-358-2311.  It’s not as much service as we’d like to offer, but the journey of a thousand miles….
  • Phebey’s Bill of Sale with Stacen Golding. The 1764 bill of sale for Phebey, an enslaved two-year-old, is one of the most challenging objects in the Framingham History Center's collection. How do we confront evidence of enslavement and oppression in our community? Join FHC curator Stacen Goldman for a presentation and discussion about the significance of this object and the strong emotions it evokes. Sign up through the Events menu on our home page. Thursday, November 12 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Plant-Based Holiday Dishes: Cook Along with Nancy Wind. Join health and lifestyle coach Nancy Wind for a fun, dynamic cooking workshop right from your own kitchen. She’ll lead you through preparation of a plant-based dish as you learn how to nourish yourself and your family during the upcoming holiday season.  Learn about Ayurveda, food prep tips, and eating with the seasons to boost your immunity!  The meal will be gluten-free.  Recipes will be provided ahead of time.  The most important ingredient is your open mind.  This workshop will run 75 minutes, with time for Q & A.  Register through the Events menu on our home page.  Monday, November 16 at 6 p.m.
  • Why Are Things I Returned Still On My Card? Because we quarantine everything for three days before we check it in.  And if you returned them over the weekend, that could add a day.  But never fear—we’ll waive any late fees generated by the delayed check-in.
  • Hoopla Bonus Borrows Are Back. Starting November 1 and continuing through the month, patrons can borrow from special Bonus Borrows content and not use up any of their monthly allotment.  Hoopla is putting together some new and exciting collections for patrons, with over 1,000 titles to choose from in audiobooks, eBooks, comics, and film.
  • Donations Welcome Again. The Friends of the Wayland Free Public Library are excited to accept your book donations again!  Like surrounding libraries, they’ve partnered with Bay State Books and can now accept books/DVDs/CDs/puzzles.  Look for the large white donation bins in the far corner of the parking lot (not the regular book return bin).  Stay tuned for details about when, where, and how they’ll resume sales.  Please, no household goods; just books and media in clean condition.
