Cheryl Kane always loved her son, Richard, and was with him as he battled mental health issues his entire life, the family said Thursday On Monday, authorities say Richard Kane, 41, of Natick, shot and killed his mother in the garage at her Adelaide Avenue home and then killed himself. “Her beloved son Richie was always close to her heart, and his lifelong battle with mental health issues never deterred that love,” the family said in a statement.

Police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide in Wayland, the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office announced Monday night. Police responded to a report at a residence on Adelaide Avenue by Lake Cochituate in the southern part of Wayland, which is about a half-hour drive west of Boston. They discovered a 68-year-old woman and a 41-year-old man in the garage, who were dead from apparent gunshot wounds. The man’s wound appeared to be self-inflicted, according to authorities.
