• The Library is (Sort of) Open Again! We are delighted to welcome patrons back into the Library!  You can now make an appointment for 30 minutes of browsing or computer time on Mondays and Thursdays, 4:15-7:45.  Tuesdays through Fridays, 9:15-9:45, are reserved for seniors and at-risk.  Look for complete information at the link at waylandlibrary.org.  Book an appointment through our Events calendar, or give us a call at 508-358-2311.  It’s not as much service as we’d like to offer, but the journey of a thousand miles….
• Author Talk: 7 ½ Lessons About the Brain. Lisa Feldman Barrett, Ph.D., offers mind-expanding lessons from the front lines of neuroscience research on where brains came from, how they’re structured, and how yours works with other brains to create your experience.  She also debunks popular myths such as the idea of a “lizard brain,” and the alleged battle between thoughts and emotions to determine your behavior.  Dr. Barrett is among the top one percent most cited scientists in the world for her revolutionary research in psychology and neuroscience.  Register through our Events calendar.  Thursday, December 3 at 7 p.m.

• Author Talk: The Language of Liberty. The concept of “civic literacy” is the latest buzzword of educators, yet no one seems to know what the word signifies, let alone how to achieve it. To that end, author and editor (and Wayland native) Edwin C. Hagenstein offers this lexicon of 101 political terms, with explorations of each term’s meaning in the broader context of American life and history.  Addressing nearly every aspect of our political system in a non-partisan, accessible manner, it reads like an owner’s manual for American government.  Register through our Events calendar.  Thursday, December 10 at 7 p.m.
• Extended Saturday Hours. Curbside pickup is now available 11-3 on Saturdays.
• Why Are Things I Returned Still On My Card? Because we quarantine everything for three days before we check it in.  And if you returned them over the weekend, that could add a day.  But never fear—we’ll waive any late fees generated by the delayed check-in.

• Singalong on Zoom with Jeannie Mack: Stories, Songs, and Sign. Jeannie Mack will perform all kinds of fun, bounce-around, sing-along songs geared for young children. • Weekly Facebook Live Storytimes with Ms. Carly. Join Ms. Carly for a Facebook Live storytime on the Wayland Public Library’s Facebook page. Babies through preschool age are invited to listen to stories, sing songs, and perform fun rhymes and movements.  Tuesdays, Dec. 8, 15, and 22 at 10:30 a.m.
• Kids Yoga on FaceBook Live! Sonia Gomez from Serfi Yoga will give a yoga class for children, toddlers to age 5. Her class will stream on the Wayland Facebook page on Thursday, December 10, at 1:30 p.m

FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

• Explore Colors Black and White with Ms. Elise. Ms. Elise will lead children in an interactive exploration of the colors black and white. There will be stories, activities, and a scavenger hunt! For ages 4 and up. Register here for the zoom link. Wednesday, Dec. 9 at 3 p.m.
• Social Justice Storytime on ZOOM. Join Ms. Carly for a storytime that centers on social justice issues! This family friendly storytime will feature books, songs, and flannel boards that offer children and caregivers tools for meaningfully engaging with topics like anti-racism, LGBTQ+ rights, and the Black Lives Matter movement. FOR FAMILIES

• Mitten Garland Take & Make Crafts. Bring some wintery cheer to your dwelling with a mitten garland! Each Take & Make kit will include cardstock mitten templates with an assortment of craft supplies to get your decorating started. We’ll provide some mini clothespins and twine to string up your cozy creations.  These kits are appropriate for all interested ages or for families to complete together. When you register, please select the number of children or teens and the number of adults who will be working on creating the mitten garland. Kits for multiple family members will be packaged together with shareable supplies so please only register once. Register for Friday, December 4, Saturday, December 5, or Monday December 7 pickup. This special Take & Make Craft Kit is in support of the Wayland Center Holiday Open House which will take place virtually on Sunday, December 6.
