Wayland Public Schools selection of Omar Easy as new superintendent

The Wayland School Committee is delighted to announce that it has entered into negotiations with Dr. Omar Easy to serve as the next superintendent for the Wayland Public Schools.

Thoughtful, articulate and inspiring during his 12-plus hours of meetings and interviews with members of the Wayland community, Dr. Easy impressed us all with his passion for education, his student-focused approach, his qualifications and his dedication to excellence in everything he does.

Dr. Easy has spent his career working with others in varied educational settings, and his curiosity and excitement about the Wayland team and the people in the Wayland Public Schools is palpable.

Dr. Easy has vast experience with school budgeting, personnel management, curriculum development and municipal finance in a public school context. He most recently served as the executive director of the Academies of Everett High School, driving and managing the transformation of secondary education in Everett to include student-focused education pathways that have provided meaningful and focused educational opportunities for students and built connections between students and the surrounding business community.

Dr. Easy also served the city of Everett as the director of organizational assessment, working with the municipality to analyze the city’s organizational structure and evaluating the budget review and financial oversight process as a liaison and advisor to the mayor.

Dr. Easy is excited to join the Wayland community. While getting to know us, he demonstrated that he is a warm and engaged communicator, who nevertheless can ask the important questions. He demonstrated a unique ability to speak about both positive and difficult issues with ease, and to inspire confidence in his audience. He has a strong sense of balance, of excellence, of justice and of compassion for all members of our community. He will bring strength and focus to Wayland’s commitment to diversity and equity in our schools.

Dr. Easy holds a Ph.D. in educational leadership and an M.Ed. in educational administration from Pennsylvania State University and an MBA from the University of Phoenix. He has demonstrated success in numerous complex roles both in public school, higher education and municipal settings, and with varied not-for-profit organizations.

We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Easy to Wayland and into our school community, and we look forward to great opportunities for our students and staff under his leadership.
