News and Events from the Wayland Library, April 22, 2021

ADULT SERVICES

  • Women in World Jazz. An international, all-female ensemble showcases music from Cuba’s cha cha to Cape Verde’s Coladeira, as well as songs from Israel, Brazil and Japan, and jazz favorites. Enjoy a taste of different cultures through music and dance.  Presented by The Friends of the Wayland Public Library, The Randall Library Friends Association, and The Friends of the Maynard Library.  Register through our Events menu.  Thursday, April 29 at 7 p.m.
  • Great Presenters: Unblocked—Breaking Barriers to Creativity. Drawing on over fifteen years in the visual arts classroom, artist and WMS teacher Pete Curran identifies a collection of strategies to achieve authentic and meaningful outcomes of the creative process. You’ll gain a handful of new tools for your own creative toolkit, as well as a deeper appreciation for the creative power of our community’s young artists.  Register through our Events menu.  Tuesday, May 4 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Schitt’s Creek Trivia Night. Calling all disgruntled Pelicans!  Pour yourself a glass of Herb Ertlinger banana rosé as we meet over Zoom for several rounds of trivia about this beloved Canadian comedy show.  Play on a team with your housemates, gather your Jazzigals virtually, or play on your own if you’re “trying very hard not to connect with people right now.”  Teams should be capped at 6 players.  Prizes will be awarded to the top-scoring team, so cease your pettifogging and register through our Events menu now!  Friday, May 14 at 7 p.m.
  • Closed for Remodeling 4/26-5/7. We’re getting a new phone system and, even better, enhanced wi-fi (no more shaky Zoom calls!).  That means people with drills and ladders all over the place, so we’re going to be closed to the public while they’re here.  With any luck, they’ll finish ahead of schedule, but in the meantime, we’ll still be offering curbside pickup and telephone reference.
  • Noon Book Group. The title up for discussion is I Give It to You, timeless story of family, war, art, and betrayal set around an ancient, ancestral home in the Tuscan countryside from bestselling novelist Valerie Martin.  Write to amoore@minlib.net for the Zoom link.  Friday, May 14.
  • Get Crafty with Creativebug. Our newest database offers more than a thousand video classes in drawing, painting, sketchbooking, sewing, quilting, knitting, jewelry making, and much more, taught by top artists, designers, and crafters.  Just go to our Online Resources page and log in with your library card (Wayland patrons only).  A world of creativity awaits you.
  • 3D Printing is Back. All we need is the .stl file attached to an email that you’ll send to tkenney@minlib.net.  If you’re designing it yourself, there should be an “export” or “download as” option – use that, and then just make sure you’re selecting “.stl.”  If downloading an already made model, just attach the file to an email or send us the link.  Once it’s printed, we’ll contact you to arrange a pickup time.
