ADULT SERVICES

• In-Library Browsing Hours. You no longer need an appointment to visit us!  Just come on in Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday from 1-8 p.m., and Friday from 1-5 p.m.  (Wednesday afternoons are for the parking lot pop-up library!)  Tuesday-Friday 9-10 a.m. is reserved for seniors.  You can browse most of the stacks as well as the Round Room.  The Children’s Room remains closed but we’ll have plenty of children’s items upstairs.  Please limit your visit to 45 minutes.  You’ll still need to wear a mask, and you’ll still need to make an appointment for computer use.  We’re continuing to offer curbside pickup.  Watch this space for further developments and remember, the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
• Dystopian/Sci-Fi Book Group. If they want to survive on what they thought was the perfect planet, colonists from Earth will have forge an alliance with the local sentient species.  Pick up a copy of Semiosis by Sue Burke at the library, then contact ekatz@minlib.net for the Zoom link.  Thursday, June 17 at 7 p.m.
• Mini Macrame Plant Hanger. Channel your 1970s self by creating a simple, mini macrame plant hanger.  Register through our Events menu by June 19 for a kit and a pickup time.  Instructions are included, and/or join us on Zoom to learn and craft together.  The kit includes glass jar, rope or twine, sand or rocks, air plant, and instructions.  You provide tape, clipboard or binder clip to hold your project still.  Thursday, June 24 at 3 p.m.
• Your Stories: COVID-19 in Wayland. We have experienced a historic moment that has affected the entire world.  What impact has the pandemic had on you?  Facts and figures will be recorded, but it is our personal stories that will give future historians and Wayland citizens a better sense of what life was like during this time.  We’ve created a short survey for you to record your thoughts and experiences.  If you have more to share, such as photographs, documents, artwork, videos, etc., please email them to mwright@minlib.net.  We’d especially like to see photos of how community spaces have changed, and learn how you have practiced social distancing.  Look for the blog post on our home page, as well as under the “About Us” menu.

• Weekly Facebook Live Storytimes with Ms. Carly. Join Ms. Carly for a Facebook Live storytime on the Wayland Public Library’s Facebook page. Babies through preschool age are invited to listen to stories, sing songs, and perform fun rhymes and movements. Tuesdays, June 15, 22, and 29 at 10:30 a.m.

• *Father’s Day: Outdoor Storytime and Craft with Ms. Elise  Ms. Elise will read picture books that celebrate Dads and then will lead children in a simple craft that just might be a great gift for dad. *Outdoor programs meet on the green lawn behind the library. Face masks are required for all participants. • Social Justice Book Club for Teens. This month we will be talking about With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo. For 8th graders and up. • Comics Making Workshop with Jarrett Lerner. Local author-illustrator Jarrett Lerner will give tweens the tools they need to become more confident and capable comics creators. Jarrett will demonstrate some drawing techniques, will talk about what makes comics work and will give time for participants to create along with him. This workshop is appropriate for kids new to comics as well as for kids who are further along on their comics-making journey. For ages 10 and up. • Pop-Up Parking Lot Library. Stop by the library on Wednesday afternoons between 1-4 p.m. for in-person browsing of popular and new materials, plus fresh air! Maintain 6 feet if there is a line. Wear a mask & hand sanitizer will be provided prior to browsing. Remember to bring your library card! Weather permitting.
• Curated Collections for Kids. Would you like a handpicked selection of books just right for your children? Call the Children’s Room at 508-358-2308 and we’ll pull together a bundle for you to pick up at your convenience. We’d love to hear from you!

SUMMER READING

Summer Reading Program for children in grades pre-K to Grade 5: Starts June 14! The theme for this year’s Summer Reading Program for children in grades pre-K to Grade 5 is Tails & Tales. We will be bringing you a blend of virtual and in-person (outside) activities featuring animals, real and imaginary. Highlights include virtual zookeeper chats with Buttonwood Park Zoo and Roger Williams Park Zoo, and a virtual bug show with Joy Marzolf of The Joys of Nature. We will also offer in-person outdoor STEM and craft programs, scavenger hunts, and weekly take and make crafts. Children will keep track of their reading online or on paper logs and will earn virtual badges for time reading, for attending programs, and for completing fun craft and STEM challenges. Every child who registers can pick up a goody bag at the library. Participants will also earn raffle tickets for prizes! Register for the kids Summer Reading Program at Waylandlibrary.Beanstack.org.
