Alert July 26, 2021: Haze and Smell in the Area

A Message from Fire Chief Neil McPherson:

The Wayland area is experiencing atmospheric conditions that have created a haze through the town that smells like smoke. A MEMA representative, stated that this condition is being created by the current weather conditions and smoke from the wildfires in Canada.

In addition we have received reports today, July 26 from Massachusetts DEP regarding the air quality levels which state:

“AIR QUALITY:  Fine particle levels have significantly elevated this afternoon as another smoke plume from western wildfires crosses our region. Levels will average from the Moderate through Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (USG) to Unhealthy readings at times. Ozone levels should average in the Good to Moderate range on Monday.”

You can learn more regarding the air quality trend at http://eeaonline.eea.state.ma.us/dep/massair/web/#/pollution/map/max

We encourage residents to call 911 if they believe that they have an emergency.
