Site Privacy Policy

This privacy notice discloses the privacy practices for waylandenews.com. This privacy notice applies solely to information collected by this website. It will notify you of the following:

  • What personally identifiable information is collected from you through the website, how it is used and with whom it may be shared.
  • What choices are available to you regarding the use of your data.
  • The security procedures in place to protect the misuse of your information.
  • How you can correct any inaccuracies in the information.

Information Collection, Use, and Sharing

We are the sole owners of the information collected on this site. We only have access to/collect information that you voluntarily give us via email or other direct contact from you. We will not sell or rent this information to anyone.  If you sign up at ConstantContact for our weekly newsletter, you are agreeing to their terms of use.  We will not use your name or email for any other reason than to send you emails from WaylandeNews.

There is a log generated of IP addresses and their visits to the site.  This is automatically stored by our hosting service, but we do not use this information for any purpose. In the unlikely event that law enforcement requested this information, we would provide it as appropriate.

We will use your information to respond to you, regarding the reason you contacted us. Other than stated above, we will not share your information with any third party outside of our organization.

Your Access to and Control Over Information

You may opt out of any future contacts from us at any time. We have several places on our site where you may be registered:

  1. on the site itself, where you can register as a user in order to submit posts or events – this information is only ever used if we have a need to contact members of the site, and you can manage your user account yourself, including the ability to delete that account
  2. you may be signed up for one of our newsletters – our daily newsletter or our weekly newsletter (managed by ConstantContact).  Both of these have unsubscribe links in every newsletter,
  3. you may be signed up for our discussion forum

You are able to self-manage any of these accounts, but should you have any difficulty accessing your account or deleting unwanted information, please contact us and we can assist. Email us at waylandenews01778@gmail.com

What information we collect

We collect only whatever information is required in order to communicate with you, or that you volunteer.  Through ConstantContact, we collect your name and email, and information on your address and phone number is completely optional.  Visitor comments are checked through an automated spam detection service. When you register for our Discussion Forum, that software does capture the date you registered and your IP Address.

Security

We have HTTPS protocol on our website, though we do not collect any financial information.  The only information captured on our website is email addresses and passwords. We are not security experts. We recommend that you use strong passwords, and more importantly, that you not reuse these passwords on other websites, as this makes you vulnerable in the event any of these sites are compromised.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Visitor comments are checked through an automated spam detection service.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year. If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website, we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

If you feel that we are not abiding by this privacy policy, you should contact us immediately via email at waylandenews01778@gmail.com
